Hi Cara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m your curator of Joy, Cara Laine. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to spread love and light to everyone I’ve met. I fiercely believe the world desperately needs more light, love, and compassion.
That’s a big part of why I started my first business, Cara Couture Invitations, years ago. Though Cara Couture is now retired, the spirit of why I started it lives on in the Spark Joy Box.
When COVID-19 upended our world in 2020, I felt it became even more imperative to spread love, joy, and connection to others. Starting the Spark Joy Box was one small way I could foster a sense of connection and community between people who were isolated from each other. I did it to remind others of our shared humanity – that at a fundamental level, we’re all the same – with shared experiences of heartache, desires, pain… and joy.
I started the Spark Joy box to spread love and joy like wildfire. Even before I sent my very first box, just thinking about this business venture calmed my spirit and gave me serenity during a stressful time. I hope that when you receive a box – or gift one to someone else – it will do the same for you.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Navigating this journey has been far from seamless. Firstly, I embarked on this venture amid the challenges posed by a global pandemic. Additionally, I faced the hurdle of having no income at the outset, which is less than ideal when initiating a new business.
Another setback arose when I ordered custom boxes; unfortunately, the company I chose turned out to be fraudulent, and they got my money and disappeared. Despite these adversities, I persevered and successfully launched my venture in August 2020.
