Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Dos Santos.
Hi Carlos, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Carlos Santos I’m from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro which is the jiu-jitsu world capital. I start Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) when I was 15 years old at the famous Carlson Gracie Academy in Copacabana we talk about in 1993. I’m 3 times world champion 1996, 1998 and 2000.
The first time I come to us is in 1996 to compete in pan America in LA. In 2001, I receive my black belt and I move to Abu Dhabi to teach BJJ for the royal family and after special forces and public schools.
After 9 years living in Abu Dhabi, UAE I back to Brazil for 6 months and move to Colorado springs, co to open 1 BJJ school, after 2 years I move to Utah and open my gym first BJJ Carlson Gracie team 8 years I go in Murray and in 2019, I open my second location in Riverton.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way? I’m from Brazil is difficult to have sponsors to pay for travels and competitions, also leave all my family and friends there and move to another country.

We teach Brazilian jiu-jitsu, I’m a black belt 5 degrees = 20 years black belt 3-time world champion. We teach kids and adults of all ages, BJJ is for all. We don’t teach fight we teach confidence.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Have passion, because BJJ is a long journey in lifestyle. You can use and do it all your life.
