Today we’d like to introduce you to Carola Wiesner Rivera.
Hi Carola, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I worked for 13 years in an international money transfer company as a territorial manager for Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and Nevada. My job was sales and negotiations with agents. The vast majority were Hispanic with a variety of businesses.
I am a single mother and I have 3 wonderful children José Luis 38, Alfredo 27, and Fiorella 25.
I am originally from Ecuador in my country I also had businesses and from there I learned about my business career, for me, it was not difficult to start since I had the ability and knowledge, so I decided to talk to the owner of Rancho Market and rent two spaces, one in the city of Kearns and the other in the city of West Valley in 2013, currently, I have 5 locations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In 2013, the economy of the country was just improving, we had gone through a mortgage crisis that affected Latinos a lot, it was difficult to start, and I did not have much capital.
I used up the money from my 41k, the strategy was to look for cheap rents and beautiful employees to call attention to clients since most of my clients are single men who come to this country to work hard and all they do is send money to their relatives.
It was not easy for 5 years, I had two jobs, one for the company I represented and Rápido Express on weekends, I did not take vacations or breaks and with perseverance and discipline, I achieved my goals.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The focus of the business is money transfers to all parts of the world and check cashing, the vast majority of clients are Hispanic but I also have a small market of clients from India, Africa, and Anglo-Saxons. We currently have 5 locations, Kearns, West Valley, Magna, Millcreek, and Orem, we plan to expand with 3 more locations.
Apart from providing these aforementioned services, we have bill payment services, money orders, telephone recharges, prepared telephone payments, and parcel service. What sets us apart from others is that we give the best customer service and we speak Spanish, we are open 365 days a year and we have extended hours.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
My company started 10 years ago, we are solid, we give a lot of confidence to the public, and we are happy to have started in Utah, even though I was born here, I feel Utense and I have lived in this beautiful state for 23 years.
