Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherith Shiba.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started in Taekwondo as a kid as I thought it would be cool to do martial arts. Turns out I was not bad at it. I competed in the first ever US Open taekwondo Championships and have been competing and or coaching ever since. Now most of my focus is on coaching as I get great joy from that. One of my passions within taekwondo is coaching and instructing Para Athletes., Taekwondo is for everyone and Para students and athletes have such strong spirits!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing worth having is smooth. Being a female school owner and coach has had its challenges but respect is earned and I have earned respect and am proud of how far I have come.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Shiba Taekwondo LLC ?
I own and operate a taekwondo school
I have classes for all ages 3.5 years old through adult. My oldest student is 72
I teach women’s self defense which is different from taekwondo. I have a culture of embracing all students who want to participate in taekwondo to include the Para athlete. I am currently a national team para coach for USA taekwondo and have coached at the world championships. One of my own students is a world champion. I have also recently coached the USA para sparring team in Australia..
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Our city is very diverse and anyone can be a part of the community. I don’t have a like the least about our city.
