Hidden Gems: Meet Chloé Moine of MamaMoine Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloé Moine.

Hi Chloé, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Chloé Moine, and I am the French Baker behind MamaMoine Bakery! MamaMoine Bakery is a French Home Based Bakery, that my wife and I started together here in SLC.

I am born and raised in France and lived most of my life in Bayonne, France. I would say that my story with baking started as a kid. My mom would often bake for me and my brothers, and I always enjoyed being in the kitchen with her, helping out! But then, as a teenager, I lost touch with baking a little bit.

In 2016, I came to the USA as an AuPair for 2 years. And I would say that was definitely a life-changing experience for me. During those 2 years of taking care of the children, I had to put my foot back in the kitchen and started baking with my host children, just like my mom did with me. And just like that, I remembered how much I enjoyed it!

After being an ex-pat in the USA for 2 years, returning to France was challenging. So, I kept traveling, and that is how I met my wife, in California. As we started our relationship, well…COVID hits. We were forced to be apart and make some of our life decision dealing with closed borders, long distances, and COVID.

But something great came out of all of this, because being back in France for so long, I decided to use this time to do what I loved, BAKE. I then went back to school in 2021 for a year and graduated with my CAP Patisserie (equivalent to Culinary/Baking School) and my wife moved to France with me until I was done.

I used to bake a lot and give out my cakes when I noticed how much friends/family loved them, I realize I was actually pretty good at this aha and I loved making people happy through my dessert! So that’s how we decided to start selling and advertising my cakes in France!

In 2022, borders fully reopened and my wife and I decided to move to SLC, Utah. Neither of us went before, but we felt like it would match both our energy, and give us a place to start our life in the USA.

And MamaMoine Bakery story’s follows!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say that it is a little bit of both. Starting a business was very new to us, so figuring out everything, making sure we follow the rules, figuring out the licensing, designing our website… before starting MamaMoine Bakery was challenging and a little stressful!

But once this part passed, it was more fun than struggles. We finally got to the best part, which was all about the baking and the advertising which is really exciting.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MamaMoine Bakery?
MamaMoine Bakery is a French traditional but modern bakery. I am a French Baker, and baking is my passion that I wish to share!

We moved to SLC in November 2022 and started MamaMoine Bakery in December 2022. We are both new to starting a business, so it was a little challenging, but Utah is very welcoming to Little Business! We were able to start our business following the Homemade Food Act.

We are open for orders, but we are still a work in progress! And we cannot wait to reach our full potential.

As I am getting to know the products here in the US (which are very different than what I usually have available in France), and in Utah, we wish to use only good quality products, with time we would like to get some of our important ingredients from France as well. We also looking to work with local farmers for fresh and good fruits, as well as seasonal fruits all to get some great quality cakes.

I wish to give Americans and the people of SLC a taste of French baking culture. So most of our the baked goods, are French traditional or are inspired by a French traditional sweet (financier, madeleine…). I also like working with some less French cakes like cheesecake, but always adding my personal French touch to it!

Everything that we have is available on our website and is updated daily. We ask for at least a 3-day notice, and everything is baked from our kitchen in our home, it is all handmade by me of course, and available for pick up & soon, deliveries as well.

My hometown and country definitely inspire my baking. The traditional Basque Cake for example, which is from the Basque Country, where I am from, is available at our bakery! And even though we recently open MamaMoine Bakery, we are ready and more than excited to bake for SLC!

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters the most to me is definitely my wife and my family.

My wife (and our little puppy, Frankie!) is my life partner, as well as my business partner, and I couldn’t ask for a better one! I am really excited to see where MamaMoine Bakery is going to take us together. She is also my number one cheerleader, followed by my family of course.

They are our best cheerleaders and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them and the opportunity that they gave me in this life!

And of course, MamaMoine Bakery is now the new baby that I will cherish a lot!
