Hi Christie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Just a few years after relocating to Utah, I purchased Red Star Transportation with a vision bigger than business — I wanted to build something meaningful in the community that my three sons could one day take over. I saw a gap in the system: when school districts were stretched thin, field trips were often difficult to schedule. We stepped in to help.
Two years later, Red Star Transportation has grown to more than 20 school buses and a fleet of motorcoaches serving sports teams across state lines. We’ve expanded into weddings, corporate events, and long-distance charters to places like Yellowstone, Reno, Las Vegas, and Boise — continuing to grow roots in the community we now proudly call home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I purchased Red Star Transportation, I quickly learned that growth would not come without challenges. Walking into transportation offices across Utah as a female owner in a traditionally male-dominated industry was unfamiliar territory — not just for me, but for many of the districts I met with. Each introduction required courage.
I wasn’t there to compete or take business away. I came with a mindset of partnership — to support districts when they were overwhelmed and to help ensure students didn’t miss opportunities because of bus shortages. Building that trust took time, patience, and consistency.
Over time, those early hard conversations turned into mutual respect and genuine friendships. Today, we work side-by-side with districts as trusted partners, and operations are running smoother every day. The struggles shaped us, strengthened us, and laid the foundation for the growth we’re experiencing now.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is our summer road trips up the West Coast. Every year, my parents would pack us up and drive along the California coastline, through Oregon, and all the way to Washington.
Those trips were filled with nonstop singing, storytelling, and road games — long before electronics distracted us. We shared real conversations, laughed constantly, and soaked in the breathtaking scenery together.
It wasn’t just about the destinations; it was about the quality time the four of us shared. Those summers gave me memories — and family connection — that still mean everything to me today.
