Today we’d like to introduce you to Colby Berglund.
Hi Colby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey towards founding Stacked Prep Academy came after a few experiences I had with my children in traditional public schools.
My first observation came as I watched all 3 of my children loose their light for curiosity and learning inside the public school system. They were not excited to go to school and and often came home frustrated with the process.
My second experience came while speaking to several other sports parents about how frustrated teachers were with our kids for missing school due to early weekend tournaments.
My third experience, came after attending a field trip with my daughter and seeing a teacher overrun by too many kids in one classroom. Making it hard to keep organized and communicate key learnings. It dawned on me that my kids were gone for 6 hours a day, but weren’t developing real world applications like I hoped
That’s when I decided to start Stacked Prep Academy, a revolutionary school that blends rigorous academics with an elite athletic program focused on speed, agility, and overall athletic performance. Operating on a 3.5/4-hour daily academic schedule, Stacked optimizes learning efficiency for K-12 while devoting the remaining portion of the day to an advanced training regimen designed to enhance students’ physical capabilities. The academy aims to develop well-rounded scholar-athletes prepared for higher education, real life experiences and a long career in sports.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey to creating Stacked Prep Academy has been both exhilarating and challenging. Anytime you have a vison that you’re trying to translate from your mind to paper and then into implementation, it naturally comes with a mix of excitement and stress. The road hasn’t always been smooth; there were many moments when I found myself sitting at my desk, wondering, “what do I do next? I don’t have a teaching background, in fact I hated school as a kid, so you can imagine how crazy the idea was in my head. I the end, I’m a parent who knew my kids needed more and remained committed to the vison, continuously thinking through the processes and take one step forward at a time. Each challenge became an opportunity to learn and grow, fueling my determination to bring a transformative educational experience for student-athletes to life.
By staying focused and persistent, I have been able to turn my dream into reality, and I’m incredibly proud of what Stacked Prep Academy has become.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Stacked, we believe in preparing students not just for tests, but for life. That’s why we’ve designed “The Huddle”, a revolutionary two-hour daily block where students master core academic subjects—Math, Reading, Writing, and Science—through cutting-edge AI technology and real-world application, all rooted in the Utah State Standards.
What Makes The Huddle different?
Personalized Learning Powered by AI
Every child learns differently. In The Huddle, we use intelligent platforms like iReady and other adaptive apps to meet each student exactly where they are—whether they need support or acceleration. These tools dynamically adjust lessons in real time, giving your child a fully individualized education plan every single day. 1:1 student to teacher ratio.
Don’t fret, we also have a teacher right there to help explain, tutor and motivate students! Efficient and effective results!
Real-World Application Meets Academic Rigor:
Our curriculum goes beyond worksheets. We use the Utah State Standards in new and innovative ways that help kids understand not just the “what,” but the “why.” Students will solve real problems, think critically, and learn how academic skills apply in the real world.
Beyond Core Subjects: Stacked Prep offers Elective Workshops:
Learning doesn’t stop at academics. Students dive into Workshop electives—dynamic, hands-on courses designed to build life and career-ready skills:
Mental Toughness & Mindfulness – Building emotional intelligence, focus, and resilience
Coding Basics – Introduction to computer science and problem-solving
Entrepreneurship – Turning ideas into impact through creativity and business thinking
Engineering & Innovation – Designing and building solutions through STEM.
The cherry on top is students also spend time moving their bodies and training towards the sports they love! We have partnered with P1 Athlete for our sports performance training.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Someone once told me ” strangers have very single thing you want in your lifetime. A stranger has it in their bank account, or the connections to open up the pathway. Keep moving forward by networking and stacking reps to become better.
