Hidden Gems: Meet Demi Hunter of Demi Hunter Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demi Hunter.

Demi Hunter

Hi Demi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always grown up around horses, I have competed in barrel racing all my life and have always had a love for the western industry, and most importantly a love for the horses. I competed at High School Rodeos from my sophomore through senior year, and when I graduated I ended up selling my horse to buy colts to train on my own.

Because of this, I wasn’t able to compete for two years because young horses have to be a certain age to be able to compete. But, I still wanted to be a part of the barrel racing community in my area so I decided to start taking pictures at local jackpots. It has grown so much from there; I still take pictures at jackpots and now I also do senior pictures, equine portraits, and more.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I began taking pictures in August of 2022, and at first, it was a simple little hobby to make some money on the side to help support me and my horses while I go to school. But now that I have grown my business and taken it more seriously, there have been challenges.

It is a very saturated business, especially in my area. So problems with people shooting at events from the stands and giving pictures away for free have been a problem at some events. Or people not taking me and my business as seriously because I am an amateur photographer.

But overall, I have met the most amazing people doing what I do so I really can’t complain too much. I am so grateful for the opportunities Western Photography has given me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in Western-style photography and videography. I take pictures and videos at events like RMPRA rodeos that include barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, team roping, and more. I also enjoy portrait sessions of people with their horses, it is always fun to see the bond they have and to give them pictures to remember their horses by.

Western-style fashion is another favorite of mine, creative-styled shoots are a fun way for me to let loose and get creative with my shooting style. The Western industry is so important to me, so it is important to me to capture it in a way that expresses the hard work and dedication that is put into the sport of rodeo along with the relationship people have with their equine athletes.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Spanish Fork because it is right in the middle of everything! There are so many rodeos that are close to me, and so many people around me who are also passionate about the Western industry.

On the other hand, Spanish Fork has gotten WAY too busy. Growth is good, but I am a small-town type of person and like to live in areas full of open fields and livestock.
