Hidden Gems: Meet Drea Leary of Induo Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drea Leary.

Hi Drea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been interested in advertising but never thought it would be my career. During college, I got a job at a local TV station, and my first day was the day we went on the air. It was exciting to be a part of something like that from the beginning, and I learned so much about advertising and marketing. After 7 years, I decided I wanted to see the other side of things, and joined a small ad agency. I was able to further my knowledge and I really enjoyed creating and implementing marketing strategies and in turn, seeing the results from those campaigns. After another 7 years, we were absorbed by another larger agency and I realized that I didn’t have as much autonomy to be creative and strategic within the larger organization.
I took a job at an independent agency and thrived.

During my 12 years there, through various personal upheavals and an increased need to support my family members, I came to realize that I can grow my own business, and subsequently stepped out on my own.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Personally, I struggled with managing severe health problems and a job loss of my aging parents, and then the unexpected death of my only sibling. I went through a period where I didn’t feel comfortable in taking any risks. Professionally, it can be difficult to advance as a woman in Utah. I remember a time at one of my agencies when they asked us to fill out an anonymous survey about our management, and when I expressed concerns, I was brought into a private meeting and reprimanded for not providing a glowing review.

I found it hard to express new ideas and ways of thinking.

We’ve been impressed with Induo Marketing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a full service marketing agency with a history in the traditional channels but with a focus on brand development, digital programmatic and social marketing. We are different from other agencies because we pride ourselves on building long-term relationships with the people and companies we work with. We aren’t here for the “quick buck.”

How do you think about luck?
I’ve been luckier than most, where I’ve been introduced to great people and been able to build those relationships. I’ve rarely been blind-sided by people or companies. The biggest blind-side was the pandemic, and I’ve been lucky to work with companies that weathered that well.
