Hidden Gems: Meet Emily Lara of MakeupByEmilyLara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Lara.

Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
It all started when I grew up watching my aunt do makeup on others that I found so fascinating. I knew growing older, that I wanted to be in the beauty industry and make that my career; so when it was time to look into the future I looked for options.

I went to cameo college and got my license for master esthetics, and got certified for microblading as well. I’m slowly but surely growing my business, I’m not exactly where I want to be yet but I’m headed in the right direction!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road but I’m grateful for the bumps in between. I had a time gap where I didn’t want to do what I loved the most due to mental health issues and I started doubting myself if this really was the career for me. So I stopped for 2 years.

Throughout, I learned so much about myself and I finally realized I let go of something special, so I re-found the love I had for making artistry and everything in the beauty industry.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Be patient! Building your business comes with a lot of effort and patience. At the start of my career, I thought I was going to get clientele right away like an already experienced makeup artist but I learned things like that aren’t handed to you.

You have to be more active and promote your business as much as you can and even then clientele will slowly BUT surely come within time.
