Hi Jacob, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started my journey in immigration law by volunteering at a law firm where a mentor guided me. I had the opportunity to shadow attorneys, assist with tasks, and learn about administrative law, including immigration law.
A few key things attracted me to this field: I was intrigued by how U.S. federal agencies operate, inspired by engaging with innovative individuals and businesses, and drawn to the global nature of the work. The potential for career advancement and the desire for stability to support my family motivated me to pursue this path.
Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
Ha, this is a great question. I think the struggles came mostly from indecision on what to pursue. I think that the advice that we should follow our passions can delude us into thinking that a career should be fun – I don’t think that’s right.
I think you should find a skill that you are good at that is economically valuable and that can be applied to a field that interests you. I find that practicing law – I enjoy talking with people and convincing them that my suggestions can provide a path for them to a happier future.

My approach has been to give more to those less successful than you and offer whatever you can of value to those more successful than you.
