Hidden Gems: Meet Jacqui Wormington of The Simple Sprinkle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqui Wormington.

Hi Jacqui, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am Jacqui, 27 years old and originally from Germany! Around 2 1/2 years ago, I moved to Utah, and shortly afterward, I started sharing my vegan recipes on the Internet. There are many reasons why people decide to start sharing their recipes on the Internet. Mine is a bit more complex because it is linked to me being vegan… I became vegetarian when I was around 14 years old and turned vegan slowly over the years. At first, it was for the animals but later on, environmental, humanitarian, and health reasons motivated me to keep living this lifestyle!

As a young teen, I always wished for an experienced vegetarian or vegan to take me by the hand and share their tips and tricks with me. After all these years of teaching (mostly) myself how to veganize classics and prepare a delicious plant-based meal, I wanted to be that someone for someone else! Furthermore, I wanted to prove to the world that you don’t have to miss out on a vegan diet, nor that it has to be expensive or complicated. I think food is meant to be shared – no matter the diet, so I started learning food photography and shared my recipes, knowledge, tips, and experience through my website and social media.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For many, 2020 was a huge turning point in their lives, and the truth is, that year changed everything for me too. I moved from my home country Germany to Utah to start a new life with my husband Tanner! (He is a Utahn I met at my German high school around 10 years ago.)

My original profession in the tourism business was massively hurt in 2020. In addition, covid hit just after I arrived in the states which postponed the process of my immigration status. Among other things, I wasn’t allowed to legally work and could not go home to visit my family for a long while. Even though this was a struggle at times, this misfortune combined with the support of my husband, allowed me to finally pursue my interest in photography and content creation. I didn’t know anything about how to run a food blog or how to take nice pictures of food, let alone how to run a small business! All I had was my experience with the vegetarian and vegan lifestyle and minimal marketing knowledge. I had a looooot to grow and learn in the past years, and I am still learning so much every week, but it all turned out to be a huge blessing in the end!

We’ve been impressed with The Simple Sprinkle LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Through my business, I work as a food photographer, food blogger, and cooking streamer online. My website and social canals are the places where you find lots of vegan recipes, as well as helpful guides and tips. I also test the newest vegan products for you and talk all about the vegan lifestyle with you guys.

The whole purpose of my brand is to make vegan cooking and baking easier, to help save time in the kitchen, and to inspire you with the most drool-worthy foods! I also made it my mission to veganize classic meals, such as chocolate chip cookies or lasagna. One of my favorite things to share with my audience are German recipes though. This allows me to create veganized versions of my childhood favorites and to share a piece of my culture with you! (One of my personal favorites is my vegan German potato salad with mayonnaise and the quick cherry streusel cake.)

Outside of that, I also offer my skills as a food photographer and content creator to food-related brands, marketing agencies, and local eateries. So, you may have seen one of my images or recipes as an advertisement or menu without even knowing it!

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Whether it is as a small business owner or in your personal life, I think taking risks is very important. It is always a step toward growth, no matter the outcome. It was not easy to choose photography and blogging over a full-time job with a steady paycheck. And it takes a lot of work and dedication to start and keep running a small business as a one-man crew!

However, the freedom of being my own boss and connecting with so many different people through my creations every day are priceless!
