Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Cromar
Hi Jade, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started learning more about dogs and their behavior when I started a daycare position at a local vet clinic in Cottonwood Heights, but I was really just scratching the surface and didn’t know a ton. Fast forward a year and I was off to college with my heeler/border collie mix, Mac, and had a rude awakening to his reactivity. Being a herding breed, he had no outlet and I wanted to help him! I worked for a Search and Rescue team in Southern Utah and she opened my eyes to the training world. At the time I wanted to go into VetMed but ultimately decided I wanted to learn more about how a dog’s brain works instead of VetMed. I moved back up north and continued working my daycare position while also starting in a different department with this company and got a second job at another dog facility to start shadowing their trainer. During this time I got my second dog, a chocolate lab named Tarot, that was my first dog raising from a puppy. There were some ups and downs but ultimately she showed me a whole new light of training. How to incorporate play into training and make things so much more fun! She began my dog sport journey into the world of agility. After starting agility I knew this was my passion, everything about it lit a fire underneath me to learn more and more. I worked with a few trainers before landing on my current agility trainers who have showed me an even BIGGER world of agility, International style, world teams, aka the big leagues. They have helped me grow into a handler I never could have even imagined or dreamed I would be! After growing even more I found a training company that aligned with my training values even more and began apprenticing and absorbing even more info. My mind was blown with how insane a dog’s brain truly works and the levels in which we can work with them. I got a third dog to get into higher level agility with and started working more and more with my own clients over the past two years and have loved incorporating things I learn from agility and regular every day pet obedience to get clients loving working with their dogs! Something over the years I learned was so many of my clients would shut down or start to get anxious when their dogs would have a reaction of any type and mainly barking at things, which was a huge factor in the naming of my business. I ultimately want my clients to see its okay and that we work through it together and keeping trucking along. Bark and Bloom was an idea that started last November and became a reality this January. Bark (a reaction to something) and Bloom (growing from and learning how to help our dogs through something)! I also want to mention that I am woman and LGBTQ+ owned!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been the smoothest road, I started this business when my old boss moved out of state, she gave me the client list and I started hard to rebuild a lot of the clientele back up. It still is so new and is having its ups and downs, but I’m hopeful we can flourish with a fun community!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bark and Bloom?
Bark and Bloom specializes in building a relationship between a dog and their owner. It’s less about obedience and more about what each client wants and needs and if that is attainable! Living in Utah and the many outdoor activities that you can do with your dog, we also put a huge emphasis on creating fun adventure dogs! Hiking, paddle boarding, biking, etc! While being a balanced trainer I try to focus mainly on the mechanics of training instead of making robots out of dogs as they will never be perfect just like us! That’s the beauty of life. We offer private lessons, group classes, and board and train options for our clients and a lot of it is very customizable, so we aren’t following a set way of training for each dog, we constantly adapt to what our clients need and what their dog(s) need!
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Recommendations are the easiest ways to support us! We love working with local vet clinics, and private pet stores to help boost them as well! As well as working with other trainers to help clients when we may not be able to! Come join our classes or if you need extra help reach out about private lessons or board and train options!
