Hidden Gems: Meet Jake Thomas of Bigfoot Balloons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Thomas.

Hi Jake, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have been flying balloons from Tennessee, Oregon, Arizona, and Utah over the last 10 years. I first started a business in Chattanooga, TN, and operated there for 4 years. My wife then landed her dream job as a flight attendant with Delta and they assigned her to the SLC base. This led to me starting a balloon business in Park City in 2018.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Transitioning to starting a new business has been a slow start in the locations we have opened. We were extremely nervous last year at the start of the pandemic. It was at the end of our 2nd season that we felt like we were starting to hit our stride. Then, like everyone we were blindsided by the pandemic. It wasn’t as bad as it could have been and we managed to grow last year through it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bigfoot Balloons?
Hot air balloons live in an obscure area within aviation. However, we are the most peaceful aircraft in existence. While a balloon flight is always an adventure the science that goes into weather forecasting makes them a safe and predictable adventure. We are most proud that our service holds up to the same heights as the once-in-a-lifetime balloon adventures we offer.
