Hidden Gems: Meet Jassica Graczyk of Level Up Bodywork

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jassica Graczyk.

Jassica Graczyk

Hi Jassica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Initially, for my career choice, I wanted to become a Pathologist. I was accepted to a great college, but I had a low-paying job that would not meet my financial needs while I was in school. I wanted something in the meantime that paid a bit more and a job that was relatable to what I would need to become a Pathologist. I found an AD on Instagram for a massage school, and I talked with the counselor at Utah College of Massage Therapy.

A few weeks later, I started Utah College of Massage Therapy in 2012, and it was life-changing. I learned a lot about the human anatomy, different modalities of massage, the western and eastern sides of medicine pertaining to injury and rehabilitation, and the emotional side. While massage school seems like a pamper fest, it had its good times and hard. We had many classes that were more hands-on, and others were flowing with information we needed to remember for our licensing exam. I fell in love with how much there was to massage, how ever-growing it is, and how much further it will grow in the future.

I graduated in 2013 and started my license in 2014. I’ve had great opportunities working in spas and in medical chiropractic offices. The experiences I have gained from those clinics shaped me into the Massage Therapist I am today. I’ve had a variety of people needing body work due to a car accident, sports injury, medical musculoskeletal issues, or even stress. You have to adapt to each person’s restrictions and health concerns, and that is what makes it fun and challenging.

After working with many great individuals over the years, I decided to go out on my own to start my own practice. I started my business in April of 2022. While it was only part-time, two days a week, my business started growing. For about two years, I was working another part-time job while maintaining my business, nearly working six days a week to get my feet off the ground and getting enough stable clientele to quit my part-time job. It was a grind! In 2023, I was able to go full-time in my business and finally make it my primary focus. There are times when I think to myself, “I can’t believe I’m doing this. I’m working for myself, something I didn’t think I could possibly imagine doing, but here I am. I’m doing this.”

Every day I am learning more about myself, how to handle business practices, always looking to learn more in the massage field to broaden my skill set for my clients. I have to thank not only myself for working hard and dedication to building my business but the BIG thanks to my family and my clientele for always being there and spreading the word about my business!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Thankfully, most of the struggles have been fairly easy to work through. Starting the business was the hardest part, finding the right business license, making sure everything is up to date yearly and regularly updating spreadsheets!

Once I found my flow with the business side, finding clients that prefer mobile massage was difficult. Not many people want a massage in their home due to distractions, space, and whatnot. It may have taken some time, but I’ve found them! Lastly I’d have to point out ADs through social media and search outlets has its downfalls unless you have large funding, they’re costly and I’ve sadly have had no success with them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
It’s now a developed area, but out in West Valley, there used to be a river that ran by a fourplex we lived in. The area had plenty of trees, tall fescue plants and a bunch of shrubs. It was out of a fairy tale.

There was a little waterfall that was hidden in the brushes and trees that me and my friends would go hide out and play games and watch nature do its thing. It was hands-on, entertaining to play with water skeeters and slugs from the water and, of course, making mud cakes. (Thankfully didn’t eat any!).
