Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannie Pena.
Hi Jeannie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jeannie Pena. I am the owner of Euphoria Cosmetics. I specialize in body sculpting and piercings. And my journey to get to this point has been quite an adventure. My parents migrated to the United States before I was born. Ever since I can remember, my parents have undoubtedly believed in the American Dream. Messages of “nothing comes easy. You have to work hard for what you want,” and even the reminder that being Latinos means we have to work extra hard, are at the core of my and my brother’s upbringing.
So many things you kind of brush off as a kid but it becomes the foundation of who you are as an adult. We knew our grandpa in Mexico, worked in the medical field, however, it wasn’t until my dad had a cardiac emergency that my focus was shifted to a medical career. There is something that changes you when you experience such a powerful event. At the same time, my oldest daughter happens to tell me, when she grows up she too wants to work in the food and beverage industry. These events were the catalyst to getting into school. I wanted to show my daughters they could be more than I was at the time, and I wanted to know what to do if anyone around me needed medical help. I can remember how proud I was the first time I wore the scrubs.
I can remember how proud my family was of me being the first to graduate from college. And I remember how I knew I finally made it the day I accepted a position at one of Utah’s largest medical Organizations. Life has joked. One day, I injured myself doing what I loved. If the climb to the top wasn’t hard enough, the slow and painful drop was even worse. Seeing everything I worked for fall apart was painful on many levels. This isn’t acceptable for a single mom. Honestly, I was scared. I was scared in all the ways a single mother shouldn’t ever be.
Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “ Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment something else is more important than fear.” My daughters were and are more important than fear.
Since my hours had been reduced I decided to take on a “Side gig.” I signed up and completed the courses for Brow (Micro-blading) and Lips (Lip tattooing) work. Little by little, as soon as I completed a course I signed up for the next. That fire inside me was burning again. A sort of hunger. My daughters saw me dust myself off and were there with me on this journey. Like in the medical field, where I felt I was doing good by taking care of people, I again was helping people feel good in a different way.
Now, I get to help people not just feel good about themselves but explore their self-expression. I’m part of the process that helps others feel like they can not just be beautiful, but share that beauty with the world. Like art. I too worked on myself. I learned to network. I kept educating myself. I worked so hard. Opening the doors to Euphoria Cosmetics required a huge leap of faith. A leap of faith because now I wasn’t just trusting myself in business but in love as well. My partner in love was showing me how to get on my own two feet and start a business while he ran his own. I trusted Joe and in turn, I trusted myself even more.
Two entrepreneurs making it happen. Two birds of a feather. Now a person can get body sculpting and contouring and body piercings when they come to see me at my business. It’s not always easy. However, This is happiness to me. Joe and our kids are on this journey with me. Our kids are witnessing the efforts first hand. My success is their success. It shows them not to be scared of success or challenges and as I continue to give it all I have, they are right there by my side learning everything I have learned so that they, themselves can be better prepared to take on the world. I will continue to grow and learn and hopefully expand.
Because Euphoria Cosmetics is my American dream. A dream which includes a Loving partner and six wonderful kids.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been quite an adventure to get to where I’m at today, to say the least. The biggest struggle I had was actually taking that leap and quitting my career to follow my passion!
