Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer & Johnny Lopez
Hi Jennifer & Johnny , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Right before my husband and I got married, he proposed the idea of us starting a landscape design and build company. He had spent most of his life doing landscaping with his father and working for other landscape companies, and was ready to try starting his own company. I wasn’t sure what my next step was after graduating with my Bachelors in Psychology, so as he made this suggestion and explained his plan of action, it felt like this was the best step for our new family. We were on our honeymoon when we scheduled our first client! Here we are almost 5 years later and we love what we do! We love showing people the potential of their yard and educating them on native plants and how to be waterwise in your landscape. Our company has grown so much from it being just the two of us planting plants, to us now having an amazing crew out doing the installs and an office staff to do the designs and admin work. We feel so blessed to have had so many people help us along the way and so many incredible clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting your own company is equal parts amazing, exciting and fun, but also scary, stretchy, and takes you on a journey of self-discovery and growth! We were learning how to balance a new marriage while also learning all the ins and outs of starting a new company. That was definitely a unique experience, but we are grateful for who and what we’ve become because of it.
The first few years we were doing everything together, from installing at the job site, visiting potential clients, and working late into the night doing the office work. Eventually, we decided it was time to take a leap of faith and hire a crew to be out with Johnny and allow Jennifer to run the office side of things. It was intimidating to have employees be dependent upon us for income! Fortunately, through our hard work and amazing network of connections, we had built enough momentum to be successful and continuously growing into even hiring office staff too. We love looking at where we are now compared to where we came from

What was your favorite childhood memory?
A favorite childhood memory for Jenny is when her dad gave her the nick name of Mountain Girl, because she loved going on hikes and being in the mountains. This is still her family nickname to this day! And when Johnny was growing up, his mom would have to bribe him with ice cream to come back in the house. Being outside playing with friends was his default status.
We both have always loved the outdoors and feel blessed to work with natural elements everyday. It is so rewarding now to help homeowners have a yard they want to spend time in, to be outside more, creating memories with their family.
