Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Munson.
Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been curious about the world of work and why people find themselves in the career track they are on. This fascination encouraged me joining the workforce from an early age and learning what I could about industry, business, and job search processes. I found myself drawn to careers where I could help train and develop talent, and connect employees to careers that were meaningful to them. After graduating with a degree in Psychology & Leadership, I pursued my and obtained a Master’s Degree from CSU in Counseling & Career Development. Instead of following that path and exploring career advisor roles, I transitioned back into the corporate world and became an HR Pro! I loved helping individuals succeed in job search, but realized that I wanted to also help companies be prepared to receive and respect amazing talent. This is the intersection of worlds that keeps my hungry and inspired. In addition to working in Human Resources as a Learning & Development Program Mgr., I sit on the State Council for UT SHRM as well as the UVU HR Advisory Board. As if that didn’t keep me busy enough, I’m also a consulting Vocational Astrologer and combine industry-proven and validated career development theories with esoteric and ancient practices to help individuals create a career story that aligns with their authentic self-expression.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have to acknowledge the immense amount of privilege in my life, and say that the road to get to where I am today has been relatively smooth, but not without moments of turbulence. I was a first-generation student. I’m usually the youngest person on a team. I had my first child in the middle of my master’s program. It isn’t easy being so active in my career and business while navigating my role as a mother; however, I am blessed with an exceptional support team!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Corporate Coven?
My alter ego is That Witch from Work, head witch in the Corporate Coven. I’m known for using current and industry-proven methods from my expertise as an HR Professional, my expertise in Career Development & Counseling, as well as other practices, such as astrology, tarot, energy healing, etc., to help create more holistic and inclusive work environments. People want to work with me because I’m open-minded, and allow space for them to explore their life through objective and creative methods, while still offering real and tangible results as they work towards finding satisfaction and a sense of meaning in their work. I’m most proud of the community I’ve built and the work I’ve done to bridge, seemingly opposing worlds. I’ve always been fearful of opening up as a practicing witch in the world of work, for fear that I might lose credibility. What I’ve discovered, is that by being open and authentic in who I am and what I love, I’ve been able to hold space for other individuals to do the same!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
