Hidden Gems: Meet Jonny Johnson of Lift Threadz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Johnson.

Hi Jonny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Back in 2010, I was the president of a home alarm company, I couldn’t find a really great source for apparel, so I decided to learn for myself how and get the vendors to help start being able to do our own apparel. People started noticing and asking me to do their apparel, so I started to expand my business. I learned that in the industry, everyone has the same blanks and can provide the same services. I hated that because it all came down to price, and I would lose clients over .10 a shirt. So, I decided to start sourcing higher-quality blanks. I designed clothes the way I liked to wear them. Raglan sleeves, tighter collars, shorter, tighter sleeves, longer body. I also found fabrics that are unique but super comfy. I showed them to my clients, and they loved them. I soon realized that people wanted to buy just one and wear, so I created the brand Lift Threadz. I still do business and bulk sales, but my brand his also there for people to enjoy one of each and not have to purchase bulk.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a struggle for sure. Holding inventory means a lot of risk and capital. If I design something no one likes, it just sits. It is also hard to be the one who is the jack of all trades because you can’t just hire everything. So being up until four in the morning to hit deadlines is still pretty normal. I work 18 hours day, so I don’t have to work 8.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lift Threadz?
We do print and promotional products for large corporations and companies. We also design for brands; we do fulfillment and print.

We also own the brand Lift Threadz. That is our brand. We design comfortable clothes for everyday wear.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Persistence, patience, confidence in your product, but more importantly, confidence in you as a leader to come through and make it happen.

You have to go into every venture and situation knowing that failing, struggling, fighting, and working your tail off IS GOING TO HAPPEN. But your attitude towards it when it does happen is how you eventually win.
