Hidden Gems: Meet Kaushay Ford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaushay Ford.

Hi Kaushay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started planning events when I was pretty young. When I was turning nine, I asked my parents if I could have a birthday party and they told me I could if I planned it; so I did! I came with a menu, activities, decorations, and entertainment and prepared a presentation to share with them. I don’t think my parents expected me to take it so seriously, but I did and it was really the start of my event planning career.

Through school, I was involved with planning community & school events. Although I didn’t study event planning in college, I found my way back to it shortly after I graduated.

I’ve been planning events professionally for seven years now, and have been primarily focused on weddings for the past 5 years. I’ve had the honor of working for universities, venues, corporations, and countless couples doing what I’ve had a passion for ever since I was young!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Event planning is an industry that is known for being stressful. I think if you ask any event professional what’s been hard, they’ll have a list of horror stories that come to mind.

When things don’t go perfectly on event day (which they rarely do), it can be easy to get discouraged or question whether you’re in the right field. In my early event planner days, as I was still learning so much, I felt that discouragement pretty frequently. Looking back though, those moments led to some of my greatest growth as an event planner and helped me really hone my craft.

Aside from that, starting my own business has been a challenge. Being a wedding and event planner is one thing, but being a business owner is an entirely different task! Learning the technical side of managing a business (think taxes, contracts, accounting, hiring, and the like) is something I never had to do in previous jobs. It’s been a huge learning curve, but knowing all of the ins and outs of the company has helped me feel so much more confident about the services we offer.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
