Hidden Gems: Meet Keila Mattingley of C&O Clean and Organized

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keila Mattingley.

Hi Keila, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and as I child, I always saw how my parents were very industrious. They tried so hard to make ends meet and to provide the best education possible for my siblings and me.

I always had an entrepreneurial spirit thanks to my parents and I decided to study business management in my home country and then when I came to The United States, I learned English and then started my degree in Business Management at Utah Valley University.

For a long time, I procrastinated opening my own business because of fear and uncertainty, I educated myself as much as I could and I gained experience in different jobs and positions I had throughout the years. Perhaps my last corporate job was the most influential in my career as I learned from great leaders and wonderful colleagues. I learned about sales, marketing, project management, customer service, and the structure of American corporations and this gave me the confidence that I needed to open my own business.

2022 was the year to prioritize myself and my mental health and that is when I decided to take some time for myself and to open my business in the cleaning industry. Why the cleaning industry? Because I needed help cleaning and organizing my own home. 2022 was a rough year for me and I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and because of that, I didn’t have time to care for myself or my home. I found peace in cleaning and organizing my home that I decided to help other people that perhaps were going through the same challenges as mine. Now I own and run “C&O Clean and Organized LLC”, with the support of my husband. Starting my business has been one of the best decisions of my life and also the most challenging.

I entered this industry not knowing what I was doing, and I had to put a lot of effort, dedication, time, and money into my education in this industry. Cleaning is not just disinfecting and wiping, but there is so much more to it. You need to know about the chemicals that you are using, the different methods of cleaning, surface material, eco-friendly products, time management, cleaning technology, etc. On top of these, as a business owner, I get to do a lot of customer service, marketing, human resources, taxes, accounting, etc. Even though we are a young company, we are already seeing wonderful results and our clients love our work.

Most of our clients come from word of mouth and that makes us happy because our clients are happy with us. At “C&O Clean and Organized” we are committed to helping you stay healthy and clean, not only on the outside but also to give you peace of mind so you can focus on what matters most.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles? Of course, so many!

There is no growth in the comfort zone. I had to push myself to speak up and present myself and my business to a lot of people, meeting new clients, doing bids for big projects, etc.

In the beginning, I was very hesitant about the worth of my service, but after so much training and the building of my confidence, I changed my mindset and now I know that my product and service bring happiness to my clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
C&O Clean and Organized is dedicated to helping families, businesses, and the general public to stay healthy by creating a clean and organized environment.

We specialized in residential and commercial cleaning. In residential cleaning, we specialized in helping young couples that are experiencing parenthood for the first time and need to focus on their new baby. We also help mothers in the workforce that need time with their families instead of focusing on cleaning.

We help students that may need time to study and the general public. In commercial cleaning, we help construction companies, rental properties, and small offices in the Utah County area. These are the areas we focused on: Residential Cleaning: Single homes, apartments, townhomes. Commercial Cleaning: Small offices, post-construction, rental properties.

What’s next?
I would love to expand “C&O Clean and Organized” to areas outside Utah County. People outside the state of Utah have shown interest in having us come clean for them because of the good references we have. I would love to hire people that love cleaning and organization to build a career with us.

Our website is soon to be released in June and we can’t wait for it!
