Hidden Gems: Meet Louis Thomas of Handyman Done Right

Today we’d like to introduce you to Louis Thomas.

Hi Louis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out in the construction and repair field in August of 2010, around the time of the last real estate market crash. I worked with a phenomenal construction super intendant who taught me the fundamentals.

I was referred to Brookfield Residential by the mayor of Long Beach, who found me to be top of my safety training course with the city of Long Beach.

I worked with Brookfield on my first construction project named Coronado, a multi-family housing complex in Long Beach, California. Since then over the past 10 years, I worked as a maintenance technician, handyman, and project manager.

Now,  I run my own home service business called Handyman Done Right, LLC. We service homeowners, realtors, and property management companies.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path has not been smooth, I have started several failed businesses experimenting with different approaches. I have learned from those experiences and past employers for the business I currently run now.

One of the biggest learning lessons was discovering my target market and also having a scalable business model.

As you know, we’re big fans of Handyman Done Right LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I run a home services business tailored to handyman home services like; closet shelving installation, drywall repair, window treatment installation, door hardware, weatherstripping, and smart home installs.

I offer those and many other residential repairs to homeowners but specifically, realtors, investors, and property management companies.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Well, it was by chance and blessing that I got an internship with Brookfield Residential, otherwise, I would have probably gone into the refinery. I think I made the right choice in terms of accidentally finding my true passion.
