Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyn Christian.
Hi Lyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – To start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Hello, and thank you for having me VoyageUtah! I am Lyn Christian, I am a Master-Certified Coach, an Amazon Best Selling Author, a competitive Epee Fencer, and the founder and CEO of SoulSalt Inc., a coaching company based here in Salt Lake City, Utah.
I began my career in education as a teacher but dived into coaching after working with a life coach myself. I enjoyed everything that came with coaching, and it was clear that it was my calling after I began working at The Franklin Covey Company. What I loved the most about coaching was how it allowed me to help people achieve their goals and reach their maximum potential in life.
I founded Soul Salt Inc. in 2002, and since then, I have worked with a range of clients, from Fortune 500 executives to creative solopreneurs to discover their purpose and live in authenticity. At SoulSalt, we aim to empower individuals to be their best selves by offering coaching, training, and consulting services that activate their soul’s salt.
Everyone has the potential to achieve greatness, and we work tirelessly to help our clients unlock their full potential.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would be surprised if any small business owner would say that the road to a successful business is smooth.
However, building a business based on your vision and superpowers is a leap of faith worth the effort.
Two of the main struggles were the dynamics around feeling alone and surviving external threats. Like most founders, in my first few years of the business I was consumed with the efforts of establishing systems and discovering the marketing secrets to bringing in consistent business.
There’s one memory in particular, it was a dark Saturday night, working into the late hours by myself, questioning if the effort was worth it. It felt like everyone I knew had a social life, and was able to enjoy a weekend adventure. I sat in my home office, in an empty house putting my blood, sweat, and tears into my dream. Looking back on it, it was well worth it and I’m grateful for the early sacrifices I made to get here.
A second situation was the 2008 economic downturn. It was a hard time for most of us, and for our company, it was a difficult time to find new clients. This era taught me so many valuable lessons about saving and investing and I was able to leverage those insights to prepare in some measure for what came with the downturn of the 2020 COVID pandemic.
As a company, we came out of both situations to thrive, not just survive. I believe my innovative and resilient nature and the input from my amazing team saw us through both of those tough times and others alike.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We like to say that we are in the courage business because everyone faces fear. “Soul Salt” is what we refer to as the mental fortitude to overcome life’s challenges.
The name Soul Salt came because of the importance of salt. Salt plays a vital role in our bodies. Our muscles and nerves depend on it to keep them operational and healthy. It improves our sleep and improves our recovery and rest. Without salt, our nervous systems would quickly shut down. But what about the salt that your soul and spirit crave?
At Soul Salt, we empower our clients with the tools, resources, and support to navigate the challenges and fears that life presents to us. We have helped thousands of people navigate difficult times in their lives. Through the power of personal development and coaching, I believe anyone can learn to reframe daunting personal or professional obstacles.
What are your plans for the future?
Having just published an Amazon Best Seller, you’d think I’d take time to enjoy that win. And while I am rejoicing from the outpour of support and responses that’s come from the debut of my book “Soul Salt: Your Personal Field Guide to Confidence, Purpose, and Fulfillment”. Many of the comments and testimonies have motivated me greatly to continue to do the work that helps people on a larger scale.
So, I am currently working on my next book and a related Coach Certification track. I am recently single, and turning 65 within a year. With that said, I’m NOT ready to retire. I’m just catching a head of steam to work for another 5 to 7 years at least. With so many wonderful things to look forward to, including improving my hobby of fencing, I feel I’m just getting started into the second half of life.
