Hidden Gems: Meet Randi Miles of Aspen Ballet Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randi Miles.

Hi Randi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Aspen Ballet started last year when we became frustrated with the ballet performance opportunities offered to adults in the northern Utah area. We had been teaching adults ballet in the area for years and were inspired by how dance can transcend from being a hobby into an integral part of someone’s life. It builds confidence, artistry, and discipline. We wanted to create a community for dancers to learn, grow, and create together. Our goal was to offer something unique where all levels, from beginners to professionals, have a chance to perform and have a dance community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a surprisingly smooth road. We thrive off the energy of our dancers and supporters. It’s something a lot of people have been excited and passionate about and willing to help with. To put together a company like this requires so many hours. Randi quit her full time corporate job so that we could devote hours a week to sewing, website design, social media, classes and more.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are an adult ballet performance company that specializes in the highest quality training and professionalism. Any level of dancer can learn and grow with us. Dancers get to participate in summer intensives, perform in full-length ballets such as the Nutcracker, and compete in dance competitions. Our choreography is original, and all of the costumes are hand made by dancers. We have professional seamstresses, graphic designers, software engineers, and social media managers who are willing to help us because of our mutual love for ballet. Any dancer is able to participate in our high quality, professional environment, even if they are new to ballet!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
If we have a dancer who is able to more accurately and confidently perform a step after a class, we feel like we have succeeded. It is not just about the body, but the attitude. Recently we had a dancer who told us that taking ballet with us had made them more confident in their daily life. We make sure every individual feels included and seen. Success to us is often about the small things-getting better just a little bit everyday.
