Hidden Gems: Meet Sara Urquhart

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Urquhart.

Sara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Divine Assembly is a religion also known as the Mushroom Church. We believe every person can commune with the divine and can receive direct guidance. Some people connect using the magic mushrooms as a sacrament, and others utilize many other ways to connect with the divine.

After experiencing immense healing through psychedelics, Sara and Steve Urquhart wanted to help others find the emotional support they were feeling. In June 2020, The Divine Assembly (TDA) was founded.

With over 5,000 members, TDA members can be found in all 50 states and on all the continents across the globe.

The most active group is found in Utah.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is important that safety is the primary concern when taking psychedelics of any kind. We are cultivating a community that is aware of personal safety as well as the safety of those around them.

Psychedelic use is moving more mainstream, but many people still think back to the propaganda of the D.A.R.E. programs that we sat through in school. All of the research is disproving the misinformation we were fed. But there are many who still hold onto that misinformation as truth.

When those people are members of law enforcement, judges, legislators, and other decision-makers, people who are seeking these medicines for healing and spirituality can be negatively impacted.

We’ve been impressed with The Divine Assembly (TDA), but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
People use psychedelics for one of three reasons:

1) healing or therapy, 2) recreation or exploration, or 3) spirituality. Every person is drawn to psychedelics for one of these reasons and stays for the other two.

It is amazing to see science-minded people seek magic mushrooms to heal past traumas and then begin talking about their spiritual experiences and their improved creativity. Or I love seeing people think their experience is going to be recreational and fun. and then unpack all of the healing they are feeling. The testimonials in and out of TDA are undeniable.

As the co-founder of TDA, I am honored to provide a platform that offers religious protections as people seek access to these amazing, healing elements.

Steve Urquhart spent 16 years in the Utah Legislature (8 years in the House and 8 years in the Senate). While there he understood the importance of religious protection in this country and this state. He has taken the lessons learned to help provide those protections around the use of psychedelics.

Sara Urquhart is an event organizer by trade. She has decades of experience organizing events for herself and for notable clients.

Together, Sara and Steve are using their talents to help build a community of open-minded, kind, generous people.

Every summer we gather at the Summer Solstice for a four-day festival called Revival (https://ourrevival.org). This is a family-friendly festival full of workshops, speakers, music, and activities. There is lots of time to simply mill around with good people who are looking to connect with other good people.

TDA has purchased 683 acres west of SLC to be a physical gathering place for creative, healing, and spiritual connection. Plans include festival grounds, ponds, orchards, gardens, and a penalty of the building to support the work and play that will happen in this space.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
TDA does not stand in the way of people’s personal growth or connection to the divine. TDA offers each person permission to seek what is comfortable to them without an outside entity telling them what their spirituality should look like.

Traditional religions are built on needing an intermediary to connect with God. TDA rejects that premise. Each person has full autonomy to make decisions for themselves.
