Hidden Gems: Meet Sophia Prestwich of Prestwich Films

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Prestwich.

Hi Sophia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started creating videos together as we were dating. I’d be filming most Friday and Saturday nights and Israel would start joining in, especially when I handed him a drone to figure out how to use. But a long time before then, I was creating wedding films from the age of 15 in England when I realized that was a lot more fun than working at Domino’s pizza (my current job at the time.) Since being together, we’ve put our minds together to create a growing video business and have loved the adventures it’s taken us on. We’ve been creating videos all over the world in places like Greece, the Caribbean, Iceland, and Australia and loved getting to work with companies to build up their brand.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not haha. It’s been so fun and fulfilling for sure but definitely hard to navigate at times. A lot of trial and error. A lot of learning important business lessons along the way. A lot of figuring out how the other one works and what our specific roles are. We have a pretty good system now – for the most part, Sophia handles the creative, and Israel handles the business. But there is some overlap of course. In the beginning, we were literally creating videos for anyone and everyone. We had rent to pay! But as we’ve progressed, it’s been nice to be more selective about the work we do and create videos for companies we’re just really excited about.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We’re a video production company based in Utah. We travel often for work and pride ourselves in creating beautiful videos with a soft, feminine style. Our favorite work to do is story narrative stuff. We’d like to think we’re set apart from other videography work because of our style. We’re very selective about music choices and shots we include. For any brands and businesses, particularly in Utah, we’d love to work with you and help elevate your brand!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We hope we’re still traveling and creating as much as we do now and hopefully our team has grown a little bigger – although we want to stay involved with every project we work on!
