Hidden Gems: Meet Tyler Green of Cache

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Green.

Hi Tyler, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It was during a late-night brainstorm at the family cabin with our late dad, Jeff Green (The Jeffrey Cooler) that we came up with the concept for the Basecamp System. We’d always been a truck family and had spent many hours sitting on open tailgates together sipping cold ones and watching the sun go down. Co-founder Dillon Green had the idea to create the world’s first locking tailgate pad for bicycles– but it wasn’t until he took the idea to the family that it expanded into the world’s first modular tailgate system.

What if, our father theorized, we could transform a tailgate from essentially wasted space into a functional hub complete with chairs, a cooler, and more?

The idea stuck, and within a few months, we had a tech pack and initial prototype ready to roll! However, in early 2017, our world came to a screeching halt when our dad, Jeffrey Allen Green, passed away unexpectedly.

After a period of mourning, we came back more determined than ever to make Cache and the Basecamp system a reality in order to bring our father’s idea to life and honor his legacy. After years of work finalizing the design and materials, attaining our patented status, and partnering with a trusted factory, we are proud to say we have products in all 50 states across the US, Australia, Middle East, and Europe.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The passing of our dad was certainly the most difficult part of the Cache journey and also the largest catalyst. It is hard to describe the motivation behind building a brand with a point to honor him as one of the original founding partners.

Another obstacle was that Cache was our first time starting and running a business. By being brothers with Dillon – it offers an elevated level of trust throughout the company as our roots are identical and having that bond, friend, and motivation to push each other is vital to Cache’s business function.

The pandemic was another “bump in the road” that gave us a chance to pause – evaluate – and proud to say that we increased sales by 300% during a tough time in world history. We were also able to donate thousands of $’s to charity organizations including Utah Food Bank.

The supply chain issues were another that cause a lot of mental fortitude as the sales were great, but the ability to fulfill has been difficult. It offered us the chance to upgrade factories, develop a new Basecamp System, and expand our accessory options for customers as well.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We invented the world’s first modular tailgate system. For years – the industry has only had a few improvements and we decided to utilize our personal experiences to develop the Basecamp System. Our multi-patented products ensure theft resistance, modular capabilities, and unique design features to help with the harsh climates truck and their owners endure.

Our new Basecamp 2.0 will be available in February 2020 with increased backup camera functionality, upgraded hardware, and an overall facelift to the world’s best tailgate pad.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was fortunate to grow up primarily in Sandy, UT, where we had the fortune of being raised on the Wasatch front. I have been skiing Snowbird since I was about three years old and still am a season pass holder to this day. I found myself enjoying a lot of different things and certainly had my share of ups and downs, but thankful to God to be a proud husband to my beautiful wife, Carolyn, and dad to two great kids, Jackson and Emma.

Pricing:

  • Basecamp System 2.0 $324.99
  • Basecamp Pad $229.99
