Inspiring Conversations with Alex Gerdel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Gerdel.

Hi Alex, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In 2019, I purchased a home with my wife while we had our first child on the way. So the importance of having our own place and starting the “American dream” of family life was extremely important to us.

I had worked at a previous retail job for 13 years. It was the first official job I had. After going through Covid and seeing how people treated retail workers and just workers in general, I wanted to show the better side of people.

I started seeing co-workers and friends not being able to really survive renting and more so, not thinking it was possible to do what I had done and buy a house for my family.

I realized with my passion for always looking out for others, finding the best in people, and seeing what made each person different was what I was really driven by. I reached out to the realtor who had helped me and asked if he would mentor me in this transition to real estate. We have very similar morals and both wanted to build our business on the aspect that people would come to us for help because we would help them as individuals and look out for their best interest and not our paychecks.

So as I started building up my knowledge and school for reality, I realized how much my mentor had done for me as a person regardless if he felt we might buy then or not. I didn’t realize how many different realtors I had dealt with that never made me feel like their friend over their next paycheck. Seeing this really made me understand what people, especially people my age and under needed.

They need education, understanding, and someone to help them on the path. So I wanted to become that missing link. Not just a realtor to help find the American dream, but a teacher and friend to help along the path and learn what’s possible. No one is talking or teaching about the way first-time buyers get a house. No one teaches how to build wealth in a struggling time.

Most of all no one talks about how most of your wealth when you get retire is your equity in your home and not your 401k or social security. These are things that make the rich richer because they know these aspects. So I started building my business that way. I do education posts on social media, free classes with lenders to show what’s possible, and am available for questions and teachings when not understanding.

That’s who I am. I want to be rich in morals, and friends and surrounded by like-minded individuals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As smooth as it can be. My wife and family support made my road smooth. With a second kid on the way as I decided to go from a stable job in retail, to tell my wife I can’t do that anymore and think this is better for our family.

I started this change while in the holiday season of the world becoming more open again after Covid. So the store was extremely busy with short demand of the product. At the same time, I was doing schooling every night with a pregnant wife and 2-year-old with more energy than anyone can handle in a week!

Truly the support I have from family and friends has made it a smooth transition. Even coworkers hating to see me move on from the work-family we had built were supportive and excited to see me find a new path.

We’ve been impressed with Fathom Realty UT, LLC, SG, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The simplest term is I am a real estate agent. I work for the Fathom Realty brokerage.

I specialize in first-time home buyers and investment properties. I am able to help make the home experiences as stress-free as possible. From buying, selling, and growing your wealth. I am most proud of the teaching aspect of my business.

Being able to educate on the process and understand what the steps there are to home buying and selling.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Little luck. A lot of support and blessings. The luck I have is that we are in one of the fasting-growing areas in the states. A lot don’t see that lucky as prices grow and get more expensive.

However, it’s something that can make a lot of people lucky as they get into the home buying they are able to build their wealth day on into their home. The most luck I had is finding my wife and a most amazing partner to share this path and life with.

She is the reason I have the drive and want to be successful. She is a teacher and helps me grow my lessons and posts as well.
