Inspiring Conversations with Alyn Toalepai of Utah Pacific Islander Chamber of Commerce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyn Toalepai.

Alyn Toalepai

Hi Alyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a small business owner, I knew the struggles of trying to do it all on your own. It wasn’t till after that I found out about resources from our cities, County, state, and even the federal government.

I saw the need to connect these resources to our community and help our people start, grow, expand, and sustain their gains. It’s no longer about whether we have a seat at the table, but more so creating a table in our community and bringing resources to the table.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Because we are new, it will take a bit to establish legitimacy. We can attain this by being transparent, ensuring consistency, and showing value.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are the chamber of small businesses, business professionals, and entrepreneurs. We have partnered with various organizations such as Prog Leasing, The Mill, Zions Bank Resource Center, Women Business Center of Utah, World Trade Center, and many others throughout the state. We are also working with national organizations to provide relevant resources for our community.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in California but raised in our Samoan culture of family, respect, and love. That has helped me be who I am and share those guiding principles with all with whom I come in contact.
