Hi Annali and Cameron, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Cameron and I met while we were both attending BYU. It was practically love at first site. From our very first date, we were inseparable, and after dating for a year and a half, we were married on October 15, 2020.
While planning our wedding, I wanted a high-class soda bar at our reception. As I searched, I only found soda bars serving simple flavored sodas on plastic tables stacked with ugly Torani bottles and plastic cups. I decided that I would create the bar I was searching for. That was the beginning of Bottoms Up Mocktails! Since then, we’ve catered events all over Utah. From weddings to corporate parties, and everything in between!
We have been so blessed with support from friends, family and our community.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting any business is hard, but we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have great partners and mentors as we’ve grown. Early on we struggled with balancing the many facets of running our business with our full-time school load, social responsibilities, and personal time. It turns out that managing and operating a catering business is a lot of work for two people! It became very difficult to juggle everything for Bottoms Up Mocktails without dropping the ball in other areas of our lives. We’ve managed to balance things a little better now, but it takes a lot of coordination and time. The smiles on our customers’ faces make it all worth it!
We’ve been impressed with Bottoms Up Mocktails, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bottoms Up Mocktails is the perfect mocktail bar for any event in Utah. We pride ourselves on a completely customized experience, from the drinks we serve to the color of the menu! Every event is unique, and we think the bar service at the event should be unique too. Mocktails is a play on “mock cocktails”, meaning all our drink options have 0% alcohol. We offer zero proof options, but also soda and juice bar style drinks!
We’re unique in our space largely because of our attention to detail. We don’t do plastic tables and Torani bottles. Instead, we bring a fully equipped 7-foot hardwood bar to each event, as well as glass-replica vinos and flute glasses. The bottoms up mocktail experience is the classy, complete approach to drink catering for any event.
We’re most proud of our drinks. A lot of little ingredients and steps go into preparing our drinks, but we love making them in front of our patrons at events! It’s an experience (and the drinks taste AMAZING too).
If there is one thing we want everyone to know, it’s that there is an approach available for any event. Our bar is completely mobile, and we can use built in bars and equipment at any venue. Our pricing is VERY affordable – we can make any budget and event size work!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be brave! The first steps were the hardest we’ve taken in starting Bottoms Up Mocktails. There’s a lot of fear that comes with managing and operating your own business – you are 100% responsible for the success of your business. However, owning and operating a business is SO rewarding, and can be an amazing experience you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Don’t be afraid to ask for help where you need it, and just keep trying!
