Today we’d like to introduce you to Brady Slack.
Hi Brady, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was studying Accounting and Personal Financial Planning at Utah Valley University when my father-in-law introduced me to his accountant. He offered me a job on the spot and I took it. It paid well and I knew I needed relevant experience if I wanted to get a good job later on!
I never really thought I would ever get into accounting and taxes but as I started to meet the clientele, I fell in love with helping these awesome entrepreneurs strategize and save tons of money in taxes! I was learning more than I ever had in school and the application of that knowledge in helping others was in full force!
After some time, the opportunity arose for me to leave that tax firm and start my own. I was able to partner with other professionals and start speaking and presenting to large groups of sales reps, entrepreneurs, and investors on important strategies to help them save tons of money in taxes but utilize their capital to help them make even more!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road but looking back, I am glad it hasn’t.
I learned ethics and honesty early on in my career thanks to individuals that were not ethical or honest. I was put into advising positions early on which stretched me to learn and apply complex planning opportunities with clients. Unbeknownst to me, that would help immensely in the decision to start my own Tax and Accounting Firm. Even owning my own firm has presented its own challenges and unique situations.
Owning a business is never easy. I went from working a 9-5, to working and thinking about my business, clients, and employees 24/7. My wife always tells me I work too much even though I have much more flexibility. It is demanding and I am in an industry that is changing constantly. I love it though and wouldn’t change it one bit!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
High Country Finance, LLC is a full-service Tax and Accounting Firm. We help prepare, plan, and strategize financial strategies and taxes. I started High Country Finance, LLC because I saw that other industry professionals lacked important communication, education, and planning skills. So many people would come to me with questions that I felt should be common knowledge.
I am definitely newer in my industry. I don’t know of any other 26 year old’s that own an Accounting Practice but I look at that as a major advantage! I have already traveled across the country multiple times teaching and presenting to thousands of sales reps and companies. I advise several sales and investing platforms.
I’ve been featured in a USA Today article highlighting Top Real Estate Professionals to watch out for in 2022. I think bright things are in store but even more than the presenting and speaking, I can’t wait for the opportunity to help more people with atopic as stressful as taxes are!
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk is such a thought-provoking word. When “risk” and “money” are used in the same sentence or conversation, it is even more encompassing because there are so many emotions that are tied to money.
I have definitely taken risks. I left a comfortable situation and started a Tax firm. I’ve invested money in several different projects and investments. Some have paid off, some have not. I have made different partnerships or joint ventures and some have paid off tremendously but others have cost me quite a bit.
Money and stress alike. I think the important thing is to take calculated risks, do the research (I call it “run the numbers”), and make the best decisions you feel like you can make. Higher Risk definitely equals higher rewards but from experience, some of those rewards aren’t worth it.
