Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Andersen.
Hi Carmen, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Sinaloa, Mexico. I moved to Utah when I was 15 years old. I developed my love for fitness at a young age. I’ve always wanted to have a healthy lifestyle. Frankly, that passion ended up being suppressed for a long time. I regained that lost passion after my divorce. My divorce kickstarted the inner love of health and fitness, providing me with a whole new perspective. Working out made me feel amazing, rejuvenated. I decided to create an Instagram account and share my fitness journey. This platform helped inspire the idea of creating my very own business. I realized that there were not as many small businesses owned by Hispanic women. I started my fitness apparel business with the intent to inspire and motivate others to have a healthy life style. I wish I could say I had a master plan, but, the truth is I just had to summon the courage from within me to just go for it. During quarantine, I started this business in my own basement with my children fueling my passion to keep going. The name of my business was inspired by my children and that’s why I used their initials combined with my initials, JMC FIT Apparel.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting my own business hasn’t been easy. One of the bigger challenges is learning how to run a business behind the scenes. Understanding basic accounting principles and marketing. It can be mentally and physically exhausting, juggling being a single mother, owing a business, and working full-time as a dental assistant. Despite all the challenges it has been greatly rewarding.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is seeing the confidence a person radiates when they wear my apparel. It brings me a sense of accomplishment.
