Today we’d like to introduce you to Carson Pennington.
Hi Carson, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I was known as the neighborhood kid who could fix all of the older individuals computers. I repaired my first computer at just eight years old because I was determined to play Minecraft and our family computer had stopped working and I have never stopped. That early curiosity eventually led me to pursue IT while attending BYU, where I landed my first official tech job at the campus Apple Store. I quickly realized how much faster I learned through hands‑on experience, so I transitioned into full‑time tech support career path.
Within my first year, I worked my way up to IT manager, and the following year I became the head of the department. That experience opened the door to the world of managed IT services, where I joined a local firm and gained invaluable exposure to supporting small and mid‑sized businesses. When the company was eventually sold, I decided it was the right moment to take a leap and start my own IT managed services business, one focused on serving local organizations that rely on dependable, personal support.
What has always driven me is the chance to step in when someone is stressed or stuck with a technical issue. Helping people has always been my favorite part of working in IT, and building a business around that passion has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges in my career ultimately became the turning point that led to the success of my business. I had been working in a job I loved, surrounded by great colleagues, and chose to stay for several years rather than pursue higher‑paying opportunities elsewhere. When the company was eventually sold, the new ownership created significant internal challenges and the business began to decline. As the most senior technical staff member, and with the new owner having no IT background, I suddenly found myself carrying a far heavier workload with no one to turn to when complex issues arose.
Those months were demanding, but they pushed me to grow quickly. I gained deep, hands‑on experience solving difficult problems on my own, often relying on little more than persistence and the willingness to dig for answers. After putting in long hours to keep operations running, I eventually realized the workload was no longer sustainable. That’s when I made the decision to step away and start my own managed IT services company.
It was a leap of faith, I had no clients lined up and no guarantees, but I knew I was ready to build something of my own and was now equipped. Yet, the first few months were nerve‑racking, however, many of the businesses I had supported over the years reached out and chose to work with me directly. All the long hours and hard‑earned experience paid off, and I was finally able to return to the part of IT I love most: helping people. What began as a difficult chapter became the foundation for a business built on trust, reliability, and genuine service.
We’ve been impressed with Pennington Tech Solutions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pennington Tech Solutions is an IT service provider with a strong focus on supporting local and small businesses, as well as individual clients. Our work spans a wide range of technical needs. Every new partnership brings a unique combination of systems, software, and industry‑specific tools, and our specialty lies in learning those environments quickly and providing reliable, adaptable support. Rather than mastering one single platform, we excel at stepping into new situations, understanding how each business operates, and managing the technology that keeps it running. Our goal is to handle the technical side so business owners can stay focused on what makes their work meaningful without the stress of choosing the right laptop, navigating software decisions, or figuring out where to host a website.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Helping people has always been at the heart of what I do. I grew up in a community where neighbors looked out for one another, and service was simply part of daily life. As a kid, I spent weekends raking leaves for older couples in the neighborhood, and as I got older, I became the go‑to person when someone needed help figuring out a printer or saving photos of their grandkids. That early sense of connection and problem solving never left me. Today, one of my favorite parts of working in IT is answering the phone to someone who’s stressed about a problem they don’t know how to solve—and being able to say, “Don’t worry, I’ve got this,” and leave them smiling by the end of the call. And, of course, I can’t forget the support of my cats, who supervise all troubleshooting from the comfort of my home office.
