Inspiring Conversations with Channae Haller of Justice By Objectives

Today we’d like to introduce you to Channae Haller

Channae, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story is one of resilience, reinvention, and a deep commitment to social justice. Growing up in Southern California, I developed an early passion for helping others, but life brought challenges that tested my strength and determination. In 2011, I moved to Utah seeking a fresh start, and that decision became the foundation for a new chapter filled with purpose and growth.

My personal experiences with the criminal justice system profoundly shaped my path. After enduring two months of unlawful incarceration, I witnessed the stark lack of support for justice-involved individuals and their families. This eye-opening experience drove me to action, and in 2021, I founded Justice By Objectives (JBO). What began as a grassroots effort to assist families navigating the complexities of the justice system has grown into a nonprofit dedicated to providing peer support, advocacy, and practical assistance. Today, JBO continues to bridge gaps in the system, restoring hope and dignity to those we serve.

Throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats—from esthetician and salon educator to nonprofit founder and advocate. Each role has shaped my entrepreneurial spirit and my commitment to making a meaningful impact. Whether I’m building community connections, speaking at conferences, or providing direct support through JBO, my work is driven by the belief that everyone deserves a chance to succeed.

Leading JBO and working alongside an incredible team has been the most rewarding chapter of my life. Every day, I am reminded that even small acts of support can spark powerful transformations. My journey is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the importance of standing up for what matters most. If sharing my story inspires others to create change, then every step has been worth it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, but every bump and obstacle has shaped the work I do today. One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the aftermath of my own experiences with the criminal justice system. Enduring incarceration was a traumatic and eye-opening period that revealed deep flaws in the system. It was a pivotal moment that challenged my resilience and sense of purpose but ultimately inspired me to advocate for change.

Starting Justice By Objectives (JBO) came with its own set of struggles. As a smaller nonprofit, securing consistent funding and resources has been a constant challenge. There have been months when our team has worked entirely on a volunteer basis, stretching every dollar to ensure we could keep serving those in need. Balancing the operational demands of running a nonprofit with the emotional weight of the work has also been a learning curve. Seeing individuals and families struggle within a system that often feels stacked against them is heartbreaking, but it has only fueled my determination.

On a personal level, I’ve had to navigate the pressures of being a leader while also ensuring I practice self-care and maintain balance. Learning to delegate responsibilities and trust my incredible team has been an essential part of the process.

Despite the struggles, these challenges have been opportunities for growth. They’ve strengthened my belief in the power of community, resilience, and compassion. Every hurdle has reinforced my commitment to JBO’s mission and the belief that we can create real change, one life at a time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Justice By Objectives?
Justice By Objectives (JBO) is a nonprofit organization I founded in 2021, inspired by my personal experiences and a deep desire to address the gaps in support for justice-involved individuals and their families. Our mission is simple yet profound: to provide peer support, family assistance, and advocacy to help people rebuild their lives with dignity, hope, and opportunity.

What sets us apart is our grassroots approach and our unwavering commitment to the people we serve. JBO specializes in peer and family peer support services tailored to individuals navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system. We meet people where they are, offering practical resources, emotional support, and care packages for incarcerated individuals transitioning back into society. Our Living By Objectives program has been particularly impactful, focusing on creating opportunities and stability for those reentering the community.

What truly differentiates JBO is our lived experience and authentic connection with the people we serve. Our team understands the challenges of the justice system firsthand, and this insight allows us to build trust, provide empathy, and advocate for real change. We’re not just an organization offering services—we’re a community offering hope and support.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how JBO has become a beacon of light for individuals and families who often feel forgotten. Our work not only supports individuals but also empowers communities by addressing systemic issues like recidivism, homelessness, and access to mental health resources.

I want readers to know that JBO is more than a nonprofit—we’re a movement rooted in compassion and determination to uplift others. Whether it’s through peer support, advocacy, or our new Healing By Objectives initiative that focuses on health equity for marginalized communities, our services are designed to create lasting impact.

To anyone navigating the justice system or seeking a path forward: we see you, we’re here for you, and together, we can create a brighter future.
