Inspiring Conversations with Chloe Ball of Posh Planting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Ball.

Hi Chloe , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child I remember going through towers of magazines that my parents had piled up in the corners and shelves of their sunny office. Sundays were all about setting myself up in a cozy chair and just reading for hours on end. From Vogue to junk mail magazines, I poured over them all. I remember really loving Jackson & Perkins- the gateway drug to rose gardening. The rainbow of colors, the different shapes, the varieties of styles and scents…I was hooked at first sight. My library visits became learning expeditions on landscaping and gardening. Lots of reading, but more dreaming about what garden I wanted to create when I grew up. Fast forward many years later after studying Floral Design in college and creating a few gardens of my own, I started taking classes in landscape design at the behest of friends and family. Soon after Posh Planting was born! From garden designs to full installations, it’s been a joy helping people with their garden dreams.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If only it was a perfectly paved path made of Quartzite flagstone with creeping thyme growing in the cracks! There have been a few struggles but finding the right clients always proves to be the toughest. I feel grateful to have found the clients I’ve worked with so far. I cater to clients who want lush, water-wise, 4 season interest gardens, but a lot of people are still very in love with large green lawns. Helping educate people about water usage and how it’s affecting our state is a priority for me.

We’ve been impressed with Posh Planting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Posh Planting is a garden design and landscaping company that focuses on creating romantic, lush gardens that are water-wise and supportive of birds and wildlife. In my early garden years I focused on English Gardens, more specifically English roses. With climate change I have been able to keep my core English aesthetic but have made changes to make it sustainable.

What distinguishes Posh Planting is my “Sophisticated Sustainability” approach. I don’t believe you have to choose between a high-end aesthetic and eco-friendly practices. I focus on utilizing native plantings, water-conscious designs, and sustainable materials to ensure that our projects are as resilient as they are beautiful. My background in floral and Water-wise design allows me to bring a level of detail to homes that traditional landscapers often overlook.

Our core offerings include:
Residential Garden Design
Garden Installations
Consulting
Plant Procurement

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Never be afraid to ask someone for their advice. The worst thing they can do is not respond! There have been a handful of times where other designers/landscapers were not very helpful but for the most part they have been friendly and willing to share their knowledge.
