Inspiring Conversations with Emma Green of October Leaf

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Green.

Hi Emma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was younger, I always wanted to start a business and follow in the footsteps of my entrepreneurial mother, but I didn’t know what I wanted to start it on. In 2017, while working in my mom’s small crystal shop at the time, I taught myself to wire wrap crystals and ended up loving it! Once I felt comfortable enough with my work, I decided that I wanted to start my business on my newfound skill.

On August 4th of 2018, I was inspired and determined to start my own business that very night after a long shift at my Italian restaurant job at the time. I was so determined and in such a state of flow that I pulled an all-nighter to create October leaf. By 8:00 AM on August 5th, 2018, I had chosen a business name, designed a logo, bought my web domain, set up my social platforms, and built my website using product photos I took on my windowsill that morning.

I absolutely love what I do. I get a flutter in my heart with every little sale I make. I love when my creations find homes that love them as much as I do. I also love all the connections I’ve made being an entrepreneur. My business allows me to tap into my creative outlet of flow and learn about each stone’s energy, while also paying my bills.

While entrepreneurship can be a bumpy road at times, I would not have it any other way, it keeps me on my toes, and it keeps me alive! I truly appreciate all the support that I have been shown by those around me and I’m so happy that I took the leap into entrepreneurship.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been bumpy at times. Some of the struggles are paying for in-person markets/farmer’s markets and not breaking even. Sometimes, you don’t know if you’re going to make enough money in one month. It’s also hard being the full-time marketer, social media manager, product creator, product packager, photographer, accountant and so, so much more.

Being an entrepreneur has you wearing so many different hats and at times it is hard to find balance with all of them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about October Leaf?
My business is selling my handmade crystal jewelry. I wire wrap all kinds of crystals into rings and pendants. I also have to be knowledgeable in the stone properties as I do participate, in-person markets where I tell people what stone is good for what in order to help them find the perfect piece of jewelry for themselves or for a loved one. I like to keep my designs simple because I believe that the stone should speak for itself.

My business theme is “embrace the nature of change” because the world is always changing, with that change, people don’t stop to enjoy the little pieces of the earth as much anymore. Our mission is to give people a little piece of nature that they can always go back and connect with when they get lost in the stressful, fast-paced everyday life.

Having a little piece of earth with you can be a reminder to stop and smell the roses, to stop and connect with the earth, to take a deep breath, and think of all the little good things that have happened in your life.

I want to provide the highest quality and let you know that each little stone is carefully wrapped by hand and done so with much love in each little twist. Not only is each handcrafted pendant special but it is truly the essence of the earth that gives each pendant its own unique spark.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Helping spread awareness to my business is a huge help as well as any other small businesses that would love to connect and collaborate with me!
