Inspiring Conversations with Erik Nilsson of Small Lake City Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Nilsson

Hi Erik, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In my late 20s I felt there was something else I needed to be doing. I thought it was going to be starting a new company but nothing ever felt right. After listening to a lot of podcasts during the pandemic I felt like a podcast covering the people making salt lake a better place were unknown and their stories unheard. I started to put together guest lists and outlines but eventually left to travel the country, working remotely in search of where I was meant to be. After 36 states I was excited to come back to Salt Lake and confident in my decision. My path in what I wanted to do took me more into my creative path towards painting until the urge for the podcast came back. IT wasn’t until I recroded the first episode that things felt right and it was what I needed to be doing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Lots of learnings. from how to grow a podcast, social media account, interview people, figure out what people what to hear, has been a challenge but a fun challenge to tackle.

We’ve been impressed with Small Lake City Podcast, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The small lake city podcast is a podcast highlighting the builders, creators, and entrepreneurs in the salt lake area making it a better place and driving the growth we are seeing. From politics to business, food, entertainment, art, and more I cover it all.

There are other podcasts around Salt Lake but few that are as raw as mine. I also cover a lot of topics and follow an interview format and there are few that do it the way I do as well. I am proud of providing a platform that all of the people in Salt Lake can enjoy as well as people who are curious about the area and may be visiting or contemplating moving.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Listen to the podcast, subscribe on YouTube. Reach out if you want to partner, be on the podcast, or advertise. I like working with cool people.
