Inspiring Conversations with Esme Hastings of Eternal Perspective Photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esme Hastings

Hi Esme , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for photography began when I was little. I won my first camera in a drawing competition at the age of 9, purely by luck! It was an exciting time; I remember taking pictures of everything around me until the camera suddenly stopped working. After that, I didn’t think much about photography because my family believed you needed to study something that could make money, and they didn’t see photography as a viable career. Despite this, I continued taking pictures with my phone, always striving to find the best angle for the perfect shot. In 2020, my husband gifted me a Canon camera, recognizing my passion for capturing moments in our daily life. I took that camera on our road trips, mostly photographing the temples and flowers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. People often saw me with my camera and asked if I could take photos of them with their phones, which sparked something in me.

By the end of 2022, I started taking photography more seriously. I decided to become a photographer when I realized I could capture moments in people’s lives that could be cherished for generations.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At the beginning of 2023, I started feeling discouraged and doubting myself, questioning if I had what it takes to make photography a successful career. I often thought, “There are others who are way more talented or already successful; I won’t make it in this industry.”

After a few months of self-doubt, I realized that “Comparison is the thief of joy.” I’m glad others are successful, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be able to succeed. Everything comes in its due time, as long as I’m striving my best and doing everything I can to achieve my goals.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The name “Eternal Perspective” embodies my unique approach to capturing life’s moments. I see beyond the fleeting instances, infusing each photograph with a sense of eternity. I specialize in capturing life’s most precious moments, whether it’s engagements, family portraits, couples, maternity sessions, or weddings. My goal is to create beautiful, timeless images that allow you to revisit and relive those moments as they were.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned so far is the value of perseverance and self-belief. At the beginning of 2023, I faced a lot of self-doubt and often compared myself to others, thinking I wouldn’t make it in the photography industry. However, I realized that everyone’s journey is unique. By focusing on my own growth and striving to do my best, I’ve learned that success comes in its own time. This lesson has not only helped me in my career but also in my personal life, reminding me to stay true to my passion and TRUST the process.
