Inspiring Conversations with Hannah Lopez of Lopez & Associates, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Lopez.

Hi Hannah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Long Beach, California, where my childhood was shaped by a
big, close-knit family and a diverse immigrant community. Long Beach consistently
ranks among the most diverse large cities in the United States, and growing up there
gave me a deep appreciation for different cultures and perspectives. I graduated from
David Starr Jordan High School at the age of 16 and began my college career at Long
Beach City College, where I graduated with my associate’s degree in business
administration.
I moved to Orem, Utah in December 2018. Since then, my journey has included
marriage and divorce, graduating from Utah Valley University with my bachelor’s degree
in accounting, working for the Utah State Tax Commission as a Sales Tax Auditor,
learning to ski, competing in the 2023 Wasatch Warrior and the 2025 St. George Half
Ironman, and running my own business. Through all of it, I’ve learned the value of
consistency, perseverance, grit, and community, and I’m grateful for the path that led me
to where I am today.
I now have a partner of almost two years, whom I met through a mutual friend,
something I’m endlessly grateful for. I also have a dog named Chips, who has been with
me since he was a puppy six years ago, and we’ve traveled the world together.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has not been easy. I came from a background of immigrants and poverty. While I haven’t had it easy, I’ve also not had it the hardest, so I’m grateful for having a roof over my head and food on the table every day, whether it was food we grew in our garden or food we received from a food pantry.
College was hard, especially when I got married and my education was weaponized against me as a waste of time, but I held firm to my education and was able to earn my bachelor’s degree. When I got divorced, I cannot emphasize enough how much my education played a roll in me providing for myself and discovering my independent.

We’ve been impressed with Lopez & Associates, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lopez & Associates is proud to be a latina- and woman-owned accounting firm. Utah currently ranks last in the nation for gender equality, and accounting remains a male-dominated industry. I am determined to change that. Our firm actively participates in local women-owned business networks and events such as Ember Women by Kattie McMinn and The Women’s Buisiness Center of Utah, where we not only seek clients but also foster collaboration and referrals among other women entrepreneurs. The stronger we are together, the more resilient our community becomes. My vision is for Lopez & Associates to grow into a firm that not only supports clients, but also opens doors for other talented women in accounting by creating meaningful employment opportunities and mentorship.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Salt Lake City is such an intimate city, butsting with entrepreneurship, creativity, and community. There is an abundance of outdoor activities, community events, and craft and farmer’s markets. The city is bustling with professional and street art, enriching each citizen’s life. The business community, especially the women-owned business community is wonderful, with individuals eager to make connections and support eachother.
