Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamison Strong.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Since I was a young child, I have really enjoyed dressing myself differently from those around me. Suits have always been a particular item of clothing that has fascinated me. I even told my mom when I was just a few years old that I wanted to wear suits for work when I grew up. In 2018 I was working a job in tele-sales that I didn’t enjoy. Having kept my passion for clothing throughout my life, I decided to give working in the industry a shot.
I walked in to what was Perfectly Suited by Garth at the time and asked if they happened to be hiring. Garth was busy with clients and I stepped in and helped. Long story short, I was hired. I have been here ever since.
Unfortunately, Garth passed away in 2024. The store was passed on to his children. But their desire to operate the store was minimal, and ultimately they made the decision to close the shop. This was difficult for me as it meant I would most likely have to find a new job, even after all the energy I had poured into Perfectly Suited by Garth. With few options, I decided to approach his family with the proposal that I purchase the store in order to keep the doors from closing. It took some time, but the agreement was made and my wife and I signed in March of 2025. The store was ours. 100%. That was a really special feeling. And I will always be grateful to Garth’s family for allowing me to take this on.
We changed the name to GARTH’S to simplify things, while still keeping Garth’s name attached to the store. We updated branding, built a new website, and have been working hard to make sure people know that GARTH’S is Utah’s premier men’s and women’s custom clothier. It’s hard work, but it’s rewarding. And I love what I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since purchasing the store in 2025, things have honestly been quite smooth. We have made a lot of changes to improve the overall experience that we offer. We have great clients, both returning and new, and we owe our success to them.
But things weren’t always easy. There were a lot of ups and downs over the years when I was working as an employee. Garth struggled with technology and marketing and business slowed down for a bit. As an employee, I didn’t really have control over these aspects. So not much was done to improve things at that time. However, the business was still profitable, thankfully. And those who came in always enjoyed interacting with Garth.
The biggest struggle just ended up being trying to grow the business the way I know it needed when I didn’t have any control over those aspects, regardless of my pleas to Garth for changes in particular areas.
We’ve been impressed with GARTH’S, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are Utah’s premier men’s and women’s custom clothier. We specialize in custom, tailored suits. But we can actually make almost anything custom. From Jeans to casual jackets and more.
Our attention to detail definitely sets us apart. I myself am EXTREMELY passionate about tailored clothing. So I want to make sure that not only is the client happy, but that I too am happy with the end result. I have never met anyone with my level of attention to detail in this industry (although there are some out there, I’m sure).
Another aspect of our process that sets us apart is that we are closer to true bespoke than we are to custom. This means that we are making a new pattern for each client that’s unique to their body. Typically, custom suit shops just use a base pattern and adjust measurements from there to get a decent fit for the client. But that misses all of the little nuances that truly make each of us unique. We also offer fully hand-made garments if the client desires, which is another aspect of true bespoke tailoring that is important.
As a part of this process, we also offer a physical mockup that we make for each client to ensure that the pattern is exactly where we want it to be before finishing the final garment. This is vital for high-end, bespoke tailoring.
In addition to custom/bespoke, we also offer excellent ready-to-wear options that are available for purchase in-store. Even our ready-to-wear garments are made from premium materials with the best construction.
I am most proud that our brand can offer exceptional tailored clothing at an approachable price-point. It’s not cheap, but it is very fair. And people love that.
I just want your readers to know that we are here and that we are more than worth checking out. We pride ourselves on relationships, education, and a comfortable atmosphere and we prioritize that over a pushy, sales-forward approach that many places embody. I am an expert in this field, but I am very chill and am more than happy to have a detailed conversation about clothing without pushing someone toward a sale.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was somewhat of an old soul, I believe. I loved learning new things and experimenting with all kinds of interests. Overall, I am more of a creative personality type. I love making things. I love art, music, and beautiful things. Nature is incredible, but so is human-kind and I am fascinated by things that others have created.
I was also pretty goofy, but have mellowed out somewhat since becoming a parent. I also always enjoyed an adventure. Going new places was and is exciting to me. Experiencing new things and meeting new people has always been important to me also.
Running GARTH’S allows me the opportunity to meet a lot of really cool new people and discover their unique taste in clothing. That’s one of the things I enjoy most about what I do.
