Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Martin.
Hi Jen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Reset Your Nest almost exactly two years ago to the day. A lifelong passion for organization and design drove me to want to bring an elevated designer-level organization service to others. Growing up, I was the babysitter who prioritized organizing toys as much as watching children, the roommate who organized my clothes by color, and the friend who would always help others set up organizational systems.
I also come from a family of interior designers, designed and remodeled my 1963 house with my husband, and have always placed value on how a beautiful environment affects the feeling of a home.
Reset Your Nest began as a passion project, but quickly became much more. With the onset of Covid-19 just months after I started the business, the need for organizational systems and a functional home environment became a much higher priority for everyone.
As demand grew for my organization services, I started to build a team of women I trained to organize along side me. By November of 2020, I had 6 women working with me on various projects. Consumer demand increased in 2021 and Reset Your Nest now contracts with over 30 women to provide luxury organizing services to multiple homes a week.
Reset Your Nest places high value on completely transforming a space in one day. We do extensive consulting with our clients prior to the project, measure, shop, and come fully prepared to make magic happen. On the day of the project, we empty out the entire space, clean, sort, create systems, place organizing containers curated to the client’s space and lifestyle, and finish with creating customized labels.
It is a huge production, but truly amazing to see what can be done in the space of a day. We pride ourselves on creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional for each family. In 2021, Reset Your Nest quadrupled its client base and brought on CEO, Tori Horton. We are so excited to see what is in store for 2022. What started as a one-woman show has now turned into an incredible team of women transforming hundreds of homes as well as an Instagram community of over 68K.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think anything of true value will ever be easy. With every mistake and lesson learned along the way, my mantra has been, “one more lesson learned.” While the organizing and designing piece was always what I was excited to share with the world, every other aspect of starting and owning a business was new territory.
Learning how to communicate with clients, building a team, understanding operations, processes, managing inventory, invoicing, social media, marketing, working with other businesses, managing people, taxes, setting up a website, and on and on. If I’m being honest, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I decided I wanted to organize homes for a living.
I have learned hundreds of lessons through trial and error and error and error, but the continual feedback I get from clients about how our transformations have changed their lives, their marriages, and their ability to function in their homes have made it all feel very worth it.
We’ve been impressed with Reset Your Nest, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Reset Your Nest is a professional organizing business based out of Salt Lake City and is known for creating beautiful and functional spaces curated for each client. We specialize in dramatic and quick transformations that are designed thoughtfully and with the best products. What sets us apart is a focus on the aesthetic in addition to creating systems that last.
We are based out of Salt Lake but travel all along the Wasatch Front and are expanding our services in 2022. We also provide virtual services, e-courses, and have a label shop.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned on this journey is that home organization has incredible value. Reset Your Nest is not just about containers and labels, it is about changing lives through creating homes that make life easier, calmer, and happier.
I am so grateful for the clients, team members, and an Instagram community who have shown up these last two years to add value to the importance of creating these types of spaces and homes. I have also learned that being a small business owner is hard and much more than anyone can prepare you for.
