Hi Jennifer , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Nine years ago, I took over my family’s cattle ranch—Redd Ranches, located in Paradox, Colorado and running into Utah. It’s an operation that has been in my family for over 100 years. We run a seedstock operation focused on producing top genetic, high-altitude bulls. It’s not just a business—it’s a way of life, and a deeply rewarding one.
There’s something truly magical about heritage—about honoring those who came before you while continuing to push forward. I’ve loved learning every aspect of this business and working to improve it.
One of the highlights of our year is the annual bull sale, held the second Saturday in April, a tradition that has taken place for over 50 years. Before the sale, we host a BBQ beef lunch, and one of many standout highlights of that lunch has always been the BBQ Sauce.
Originally brought into our family by Grandpa Arch Bowden in the 1940s, this sauce has been served at every Redd Ranches Bull Sale since. Over the years, it’s become legendary. We’ve had customers request it by the gallon. Some eat it with a spoon. Others use a whole bottle in one sitting. (Yes, it’s that good.)
The flavor is bold, rich, and deeply comforting. As a kid, I remember the aroma filling our home the day before the bull sale, as my mother slow-roasted each batch. We’d hover in the kitchen, begging for tastes. Honestly, we probably would’ve put it on our Cheerios if she’d let us.
About two years ago, I began the process of bottling the sauce, determined to share its incredible flavor beyond our ranch gates. Turning a small, handwritten recipe card into a large-batch product that tastes just as good as the original was no easy task.
Unlike many sauces on the market, we don’t cut corners or take shortcuts. We use premium ingredients, and no water is added to stretch the batch. The result is a depth of flavor that’s truly unique—and still tastes just like it did in our family kitchen.
Today, we’re still fine-tuning the perfect bottle and lid, but the recipe? It’s divine. And the response so far has been incredible.
Currently I live in Mapleton, Utah where my 3 kids attend school. ( they seem to think they need more than cows in there life) :>)
I travel back and forth to the ranch in Colorado. Ranching and building the Redd Roots BBQ Sauce business.
The ranch is thriving and moving forward, and the BBQ sauce is just getting started—off to a strong start and looking forward to spreading into stores nationwide.
We’ve also got a few exciting projects brewing behind the scenes, and we’re looking forward to sharing in the future.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a road of “should I turn around?” Should I keep going? The answer has continually been yes, going on faith and a deep gut feeling that’s it’s going to work out. Researching and learning the process has been new for me, I was a dental hygienist in my previous life then a cattle rancher. Bringing a sauce to market has been a new learning curve. So much more goes into it than anyone knows.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned there is no way I could market and sell a product that I didn’t believe in 110% There is so much fluff in the world, every where we turn we have to try and decipher what is real and what is fake. Products, people, treatments. It feels wonderful to have the real deal, have quality and true goodness in the products I’m sharing/selling.
