Inspiring Conversations with Julie And Nick Csere of Abuela’s Recipe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie And Nick Csere

Julie and Nick, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our story started with something simple: inviting friends over and cooking for them. Whether it was asados (Argentinian BBQ), empanadas, or other traditional dishes, we loved sharing the food we grew up with and the sense of connection it created. Over time, we realized we wanted to share this experience with more people, beyond just our group of friends.

Both of us, Julie and Nick, share a love for food, travel, and exploring different cultures. Through our travels, we’ve experienced the way food brings people together, and that inspired us to do the same with the dishes we know best.

Abuela’s Recipe is our way of sharing authentic Argentinian flavors with our community in Saint George, Utah. It’s built on family recipes, a love for tradition, and the simple joy of good food bringing people together.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We’ve faced challenges with perfecting recipes, scaling flavors for larger batches, and gaining acceptance in the community. Our biggest fear was whether people would embrace the authentic flavors and culture we’re sharing.

Our goal is simple: to create high-quality, flavorful food that people love and seek out for its authenticity and taste.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Abuela’s Recipe?
At Abuela’s Recipe, we focus on sharing authentic Argentinian flavors with our community in Saint George, Utah. We specialize in handcrafted empanadas, alfajores and Chimichurri Sauce, all inspired by family recipes passed down through generations.

What sets us apart is our dedication to authenticity and quality. Every product we make uses fresh ingredients and traditional techniques, staying true to the recipes I (Julie) learned from my Abuela. We want our food to feel like a genuine taste of Argentina—whether you’re enjoying a buttery alfajor or a warm empanada.

We’re proud to be part of the local farmers market, where we’ve had the chance to introduce many people to the flavors of Argentina. What started as a way to share family recipes has grown into something bigger—a connection with our community through food.

Our goal is simple: to make delicious, high-quality food that brings people together. Whether you’re a market regular or trying Argentinian food for the first time, we’re excited to share a little bit of our culture with you.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Julie: For me, taking risks has always been a part of pursuing something bigger. In 2018, I took one of the biggest risks of my life—I left my home, my family, and everything familiar to come to the U.S. alone to play tennis at Utah Tech University. It wasn’t an easy decision, but looking back, it was the best one I’ve ever made.

I believe in taking risks because without them, you don’t achieve the big things in life. Risks come with challenges and responsibilities, but they also bring growth and opportunities you might never have imagined. To me, stepping outside of your comfort zone is how you discover your true potential.

Nick: I would say we are big risk takers. We wanted to bring something special to an area that hasn’t been done yet. We wanted to exceed expectations and have only the top quality of products available. Ones that would truly represent our heritage. If a batch didn’t get the flavor we wanted, we would start from scratch. We take a big risk because we want it done right
