Hi Kate, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am the owner of BluBrd Weddings and Events, and have had a passion for event planning for as long as I can remember. I spent the past decade as a social worker, specializing in youth mental health. Although I loved my career as a social worker, I felt that I had a unique opportunity to help others in a different way. This is why I launched BluBrd, a full planning and coordination event management company. I offer planning and coordination services for couples, where ever they are in their planning process.
Earlier this year, I was approached by my business partner and event photographer, Austin, with the idea that was presented to him at a photography conference. I have observed changes in the wedding space, especially following 2020, in how couples want their wedding to be. Many couples are opting for lower-cost, more sustainable options, such as micro weddings and elopements. We found that we had a way to present an alternative to the expensive and often wasteful traditional wedding by providing couples with the look and experience of a large event, but in a more logical way. Think Vegas Little Chapel, but with the look of fully planned, gorgeous wedding.
A Moment In Time is a full-service wedding boutique located in Utah, where couples reserve 1.5 hour times slots, in which they and up to 40 guests are provided with everything that they would need to get married. And that means EVERYTHING! Couples and their guests enjoy the fully decorated, floral-adorned venue, a legal officiant, stunning photography, incredible customized His/Hers cocktails, and delicious light bites for a low cost. Since there are up to 8 couples getting married in the same day, there is no waste! A Moment In Time is perfect for ring ceremonies, second weddings, vow renewals, and many other arrangements.
Throughout my wedding planning career, it is clear that the attitudes toward the traditional wedding is shifting. I saw that there is a need to fill the events space with affordable and environmentally sustainable options so that couples can start their lives debt and stress-free.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Launching a new business from scratch can have its challenges, especially when getting your name out there. Building a portfolio so that potential clients can see your work can often mean working for free, and donating your time in the early stages, which can be challenging. But I found that the connections I made with other vendors in the wedding space has been invaluable for my marketing journey and has helped get my business name “out there” much more effectively!
We’ve been impressed with BluBrd Weddings and Events, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BluBrd is a full-service event planning, coordination and management company that is committed to creating memorable experiences for clients and their guests. We offer services for weddings, corporate events, private parties and all types of celebrations. We can provide full planning, partial planning and day-of coordination.
BluBrd is one of the few Utah-based event planning companies that offer full planning. We will be with the client every step of the way, from the engagement or date setting, to the day of. We are very proud that we can offer uniquely curated experiences and memories for our clients, and work with all budgets, themes and desires of the client.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I have always been very outgoing and self-driven. Growing up I prided myself in being organized and having the ability to wear many hats. I have been called “type A” countless times, and I accept that as a compliment! I am very friendly, flighty and easygoing. I don’t tend to fall to stress too often, which is something I am very grateful for. As an event planner and coordinator, being able to stay calm under pressure and having the ability to adjust when needed is imperative, just like with my past career as a crisis social worker.
