Inspiring Conversations with Kayla Jessop of Kayla Jessop Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Jessop. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Kayla Jessop

Kayla Jessop is an anti-diet registered dietitian eating disorder specialist, and approved supervisor. With extensive experience working in various levels of care, including PHP, IOP, and outpatient groups, she specializes in helping individuals of all ages regain peace with food and body. She will never tell you to deprive yourself or ban certain foods from your life.

Instead, her mission is to help you recognize diet culture and help you rediscover your body’s inner wisdom about how to truly nourish yourself. She started her career in eating disorders as the lead dietitian in NYC.

Kayla is passionate about utilizing the latest research to help her clients’ recovery and additionally teaching more clinicians the same. Kayla co-facilitated NYC’s first RO-DBT (Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy) class and is continuing that work in Utah. In January 2024, Kayla was accepted into the RO DBT Scholar Program.

She has had the opportunity to curate an amazing team of dietitians who are continuing to develop and use RO DBT in practice as well. Each member of the team brings a unique skill set to the practice and to their clients.

Beyond her passion for recovery, she loves to spend time outside skiing, canyoneering, or scuba diving with her family. Kayla lives in Ogden, UT, with her husband Cody, daughter Akari, and dog Mochi.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I never thought I would be working in the eating disorder (ED) space. While in college, I received some lectures on ED and thought, “Wow, who would want to do that type of work?!”

Once I started counseling individuals, I noticed a pattern of most of my clients having disordered eating. I wanted to learn how to help them, which brought me to the path of eating disorders.

This field has a high level of burnout amoung professionals. One struggle I continue to face is reminding myself that I will not be able to help everyone. That many of times, I am planting seeds that I hope will take root in the future.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kayla Jessop Nutrition is a group practice that offers individual nutrition therapy, individual and group meal support, therapeutic group counseling, and RO-DBT skills classes.

Our registered dietitians specialize in eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image using a Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating framework. We also offer professional supervision for fellow dietitians, therapists, and other medical professionals seeking an experienced clinician to oversee their cases.

I am most proud of my team of registered dietitians who all specialize in eating disorders. Because we are a group practice, we can make sure the right provider is taking care of a particular client. If someone has a young child who is struggling, one of our dietitians specialized in children for example!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I LOVE the outdoors. Camping. Scuba diving. Hiking. Skiing. Take me on an adventure, and we will be great friends.

Pricing:

  • Individual nutrition therapy $165
