Inspiring Conversations with Krista Ramaley of Styleezhairsalon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Ramaley

Hi Krista, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Krista’s passion for hairstyling began at a young age, creating unique looks long before pursuing it professionally. Her father, recognizing her natural talent and drive, enrolled her in a school tour, where she immediately felt at home in the world of beauty. That strong intuition led her to begin her formal training shortly after, enrolling in the Paul Mitchell School, where she graduated in 2009.

Even before attending hair school, Krista was honing her craft, learning the art of dreadlocks and other intricate styles, which would become one of her specialties. Over the past 16 years, her dedication to education has led her to attend industry seminars across the country in places like Las Vegas, New York, Florida, California, Colorado, and Atlanta, keeping her at the forefront of the latest trends. This commitment has earned her a variety of certifications and a reputation as a skilled, versatile stylist.

In addition to her salon work, Krista brings her creative vision to life in photoshoots, special events, and on-site wedding styling for entire bridal parties. As a multicultural stylist, she specializes in Color and loc styles, offering personalized services for each client. Krista also provides one-on-one coaching and is set to launch her first loc course and hair product, continuing her mission to inspire and elevate the beauty industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Throughout my career, I’ve fallen out of love with hair three times. Each time, it was a process of rediscovery and pushing through the doubts, but it shaped me into who I am today.

In beauty school, I hit a wall for a while. The last few months before graduation I kept being assigned shampoo sets, and I rarely had the chance to work on live models for more creative styles, like color or intricate cuts. Looking back, I wish I had pushed harder for a more hands-on experience—having a required number of live models for different types of cuts, color, and texture work would’ve made all the difference. Instead, I was perfecting repeat styles that were safe but didn’t leave me feeling versatile. Despite this, I built a strong clientele in school, but I was eager to graduate and branch out to explore more opportunities.

The second big challenge came when I started at my first high-end salon. I was overwhelmed with nerves, constantly fearing I’d forget everything I learned and somehow ruin someone’s hair. It was a battle between my fear of failure and the pressure to perform. Luckily, the owners were deeply committed to ongoing education, and that became my saving grace. I got the chance to learn new techniques for color, cuts, and more, which felt like going back to school again—intense but incredibly rewarding. It made me realize the importance of never stopping the learning process.

The third struggle was gaining the confidence to go out on my own. After having my first child, I wanted the freedom to create my schedule and be more present with my family without sacrificing my career. Taking that leap of faith to build my own clientele was daunting—keeping them was even harder. But, it was also one of the most empowering decisions I ever made, proving to myself that I could manage both my career and personal life on my own terms.

Another major challenge I faced was renovating my previous salon space. I set myself the ambitious goal of completely renovating the space in just five weeks. I was working full-time, being a full-time mom, and doing the renovations before and after work hours. It was exhausting and overwhelming, but I pushed through, determined to make it happen. Looking back, it was one of the toughest but most rewarding periods of my career, as it taught me the power of perseverance and how much I was willing to sacrifice to build something I truly believed in.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a versatile, multicultural stylist with a deep passion for creating unique looks that cater to the individual. I specialize in color, dreadlocks, microlocs, and Sisterlocks, and I’m proud to be the only stylist specializing in Sisterlocks in Utah. My work spans across a wide range of styles, weddings, braids, color, cuts, extensions etc, versatility sets me apart. What makes my brand truly unique is the flexibility and personalized care I offer. I don’t follow a 9-5 schedule—I’m available at hours that work best for my clients, whether that means early mornings or late evenings. This flexibility is something my clients appreciate and sets me apart in the industry.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the amazing reviews and loyal clientele I’ve built over the years. My clients trust me not only for my expertise but for the welcoming environment I create in my salon. It’s a vibe 🙂 I want everyone to feel comfortable and valued, and no question is ever too small or too silly. Whether you’re new to the world of locs or color, I take the time to educate and make sure every client leaves feeling confident and happy with their results. My goal is to make each person feel like they belong, no matter their background or hair type. Every person, every question, and every appointment matters to me. I want my clients to know they’re not just another appointment—they’re a valued part of my community.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
While flipping through my parents’ photo album, I stumbled upon a picture of a unique hairstyle I did on myself for school one day, at age 8 or 9. I vividly remember it took me at least an hour to get all the rubber bands in place! I’m so glad I asked my dad to snap a photo of it. It was a fun reminder of how much passion I’ve always had for hair—it’s been with me since the very beginning.
