Today we’d like to introduce you to Landen Sill.
Hi Landen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Early this year, I was in sort of a limbo where I took some time off school to rest my body from the past college hockey season and to figure out where and what I wanted to do. I spent a few weeks with my parents and talked with them often about what I wanted to do. My dad mentioned that he wanted to get into the residential solar business and asked if I wanted to team up with him to start that. That sounded like a fun idea and an opportunity to learn and create something that I would love doing. Right after, I started to create the business and get all the paperwork and licensing we needed. We started up and are now selling and building throughout the Utah valley.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. There is a lot more to a business than what you would think or are taught in school. Many permits or licenses took time and hassle to get. Figuring out the product and what it will look like and how it will be sold has taken months to get right. With the inflation going on growing, our inventory cost more than expected as well.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a residential solar installation company that specializes in building accessory shade structures (pergola, carport, etc.) and putting the solar panels on top of the structure creating a unique way to spice up a customer’s yard and property. We are family owned and operated and are excited to serve Utah and the surrounding areas. I am very proud of the design and look of our structures. They are beautiful structures with the addition of solar panels which only adds to the beauty. They are simple yet elegant. We offer many different sizes and designs and various add-ons that customers can choose including electric vehicle chargers and smart electrical panels. Our prices are low and the value of the structure is immense.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My dad is the main person that has helped along the way. He has helped me to know everything that I need, all the ins and outs that I would not have known if he was not here helping. He has helped me whenever I have questions about the business or the product. He is very knowledgeable and has helped so much.
