Today we’d like to introduce you to Madi Whitaker
Hi Madi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I always had a passion for beauty, art, fashion. Anything creative I was all for it. I remember playing spa as a little girl with my friends so it was very fitting I got my master esthetician license.
I graduated esthetician school in 2020 just 2 months before the pandemic hit and that really derailed my plans. I anticipated that id graduate, go get a job at a spa and start my esthetics career but the world had other plans. I thankfully had a job that kept me secure til I decided what was next. In 2021 I got tooth gems for the first time and I was like hey this would be fun to learn to do on my friends, shortly after I got trained on how to do tooth gems and I did them on my friends and then it was on friends of friends and then I started showing more of my work on social media and now it’s my full time job since march of 2024.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say that the road definitely hasn’t been smooth.
I was really unsure of what I wanted to do after graduating high school, I really needed a push to do esthetics school, it was very hard but very rewarding.
I quit my retail job because of my deteriorating mental health in 2024. I felt like it was either sink or swim so I decided to make my side hustle my full time job. It was the first time in my life I put full trust into myself and said you know what I’m not sure what’s next but I’ll figure it out. I feel like when you take a chance on yourself the universe helps you out.
I’ve dealt with some self doubt, every month I’m like damn am I going to pull this off again? The uncertainty of being mostly self employed is anxiety inducing but it helps my drive, it helps me be more resourceful and makes me think outside the box. I learn something new every month. The amount of opportunities I’ve received since quitting my job has confirmed for me that I’m doing the right thing. I’ve never felt more fulfilled by a job even though it feels cloudy at times. I just keep hustling and trusting myself. I also have a great support system and I don’t think I’d be doing what I’m doing without my friends and family encouraging me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a master esthetician who specializes in tooth gems and facial treatments. I feel like my approach to skincare is different than the typical esthetician you’d find in Utah. The studio I work out of is not a cookie cutter esthetics space that you’d usually see.
I’m definitely known for tooth gems.
I am a queer identifying woman so I want my space to feel inclusive safe and welcoming to my lqbtq+ community and bipoc community as well.
I would say that when it comes to my brand I’m most proud of how authentic it is to me. I feel like I reflect my personality and quality of work on social media the same way it is in real life.
I want people to know that everyone is welcome!
For people that don’t know much about tooth gems I’d want them to know that it’s non invasive, I use some of the highest quality products I can find for tooth gem services, and that tooth gems are totally temporary! I always get asked how long they last and I say anywhere from 3 months to a year.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Reaching out to collaborate via email or instagram is the best place, I love to collaborate so I’m always down to work with other local businesses.
