Inspiring Conversations with Melody Klein

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Klein.

Hi Melody, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in Malaysia with very humble beginnings. Having lived in multiple countries and states, I know I wanted to live somewhere that allows me to be close to nature, and my kids to have a safe, nurturing environment. Impressed by the outdoor adventures and scenic attractions in Utah, I decided to settle down and grow my roots in Layton and continuously explore what this state has to offer. My passion for what I do stems from the relationships I gain with people.

I fell in love with hearing people’s stories, really getting to know their needs for their future, and focusing on ensuring they find a home that actually meets those future goals. Real estate can be a stressful thing. Having been through some financial hardships myself, I understand the grit and determination it takes to work through the hurdles of homeownership, especially in this super-competitive market.

Seeing my friends and family breakthrough in the right direction, and then seeing their eyes and hearts spark because they have realized their goals – is THE BEST!!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would be lying if I say it’s been all peaches and cream. There are lots of ups and downs in my day-to-day work life. Little did I know, passing the real estate test would have been the easiest task of all. When you are a real estate agent, hundreds of thousands worth of assets is in your hands. You have to be good at marketing your listings, you’ve got to be great with negotiations, you need to be tactful when presenting facts, you need to be incredibly empathetic with your client’s situations and emotions.

They don’t teach you all that in real estate school, and you learn a lot of it as you go. One thing that helps me immensely is all the education that’s available out there. It’s up to you to take the initiative to attend these classes, only a small portion of it is mandatory when the scope of what you can learn with real estate is so huge. I make sure I attend at least two classes every week, and I keep in close contact with mortgage advisors, so I am up to date with the rates and trends that are to come. Apart from that, I’ve also had lulls in my business and I do worry about when the next check will happen.

But I have learned to be more organized and smart with finances and setting up an LLC to have a more consistent financial flow has really helped me this year. The first year, as a real estate agent you’re learning how to set up your business as you’re learning the ropes of the career, it’s sure hectic. Being organized, determined, and solution-oriented is mega important. I would just take it one day at a time, seek out resources and avenues, and grasp on to be better and more refined every day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Melody Klein with Presidio Real Estate?
The reason why I joined Presidio Real Estate and my team Hive Real Estate Collective is the education and support. The leaders are ultra encouraging and available for me while allowing me the autonomy I need. I feel like true leaders lead by example and are generous with their knowledge and experience. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this work family. I would say I specialize in first-time home buyers and relocations.

I like sharing my story and history with my clients and motivating them in a way that says “if I can do it, you certainly can too!” I also think relocations are fun. Each client has such a unique set of preferences, you really need to be able to speak to what areas would suit them and make them happy without breaking any code of ethics rules. I take the time to really listen to their needs and wants and be able to check off as many boxes for them. I would never advise my clients to write or accept an offer if they don’t feel 100% good about their decision. If they have any setbacks, we try to resolve and talk through them to make sure they are certain.

I tend to look at the long-term game plan. I want to make sure they are satisfied and have a genuine friendship with me beyond the transaction so they keep in touch with me and know to trust me when they ask for recommendations for any home-related services. Being a strong buyer’s agent really helps me be a great listing agent as well. Being able to see what buyers are motivated by, and being able to see and study appraisal reports have given me a solid backbone to successfully dispute low appraisals and empathetically negotiate with agents on the other side.

Any big plans?
Our short-term goal as a family is to own a second property in another state. If I were to teach and preach real estate investing, I should be doing it myself. I want to make sure we are solid on our personal home before we venture out with other real estate deals. But I love that due to the equity we have built, we have a lot of options to diversify our investments. I’m still building my business, but for me, it’s always going to be quality over quantity. I never want to be too busy for people that have trusted me with the biggest asset of their lives.

I will always help anyone who seeks my services no matter the price range, and I want to retain contact with everyone that’s bought or sold a home with me – because they’re all so important to me, and I never want them to forget how much their trust and support continuously mean to me. I would love to be an established real estate mentor as well. I have one mentee under my wings and once she is established, she will be my partner. Having a team of people you can trust and work well with is crucial, no matter what industry you’re in.

It helps you not burn out and keep going. It helps have someone that knows exactly what you’re going through. I hope to maintain this career-family balance. Sometimes it feels like I’m working too much, I definitely need to optimize my time and be more present when I’m with my family.
