Today we’d like to introduce you to Russell Taylor.
Hi Russell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I currently serve as the Vice President of Live Earth Products; we mine and manufacture humic and fulvic acid-based products for use in agriculture, animal feeds, cosmetics, dietary supplements, organic gardening, and lawn care. All of our humic and fulvic acid products are derived from our humic shale mine located in Emery, Utah. We harness the power of humates to bring vitality to life. My father founded Live Earth Products over 30 years ago when I was just a kid – I grew up in the company. I also serve as the President of the Humic Products Trade Association and the co-owner of Taylor Made Beef. I hold degrees in agriculture and ag business, as well as an MBA. I’m also a certified crop adviser.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, growing up in a start-up business was hard. My dad was literally digging his fortune out of the ground and trying to make a market for our unique humate products. He didn’t have much help, so he relied on his family. I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, but I worked in our mine helping my dad underground at nine years old. Selling organic soil amendments in the 1980s was an idea well ahead of its time. There we were, young kids helping our dad hand fill fertilizer bags on a bathroom scale to sell to the local farmer co-op. When you have a good product, it sells. We hoped for success; I didn’t imagine that 25 years later, our products would be sold worldwide and used on iconic properties like the Rose Bowl Stadium.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Right now, one widespread obstacle is the rising cost of fertilizer and agriculture inputs, which impacts everyone from commercial farmers to hobby farmers to home gardeners. Our humic and fulvic acid-based products serve as a solution, helping to extend the life of fertilizer, and nourishing the soil by increasing its ability to hold water and retain vital nutrients. University studies show that our products can increase crop yields when used with nitrogen fertilizers. In the home garden, users report that our Soil Conditioner promotes new branch growth and new blooms on flowering plants, as well as better tasting veggies.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
We are moving beyond organic and looking at sustainable soil practices. We embrace the regenerative agriculture movement and are excited to see a focus on soil health becoming more prevalent. The human population is anticipated to double in the next 30 years. Growing food and feeding the human population can only be done by utilizing products that help to produce more food using the same amount of water. Our company is focused on improving soils to help make more efficient use of applied water and fertilizer. Conservation is the future of successful agriculture and that will continue to be the focus for Live Earth Products.
